Coronation Billiards is one of my favorite places in Toronto. It is technically a pool hall, but its feel is more that of a community center where you can have a few drinks. On a Saturday night or on a Tuesday night, it's where I want to go to unwind.
What I like most is the mix of people I see there. Families go in with kids, local singles have a drink after work, and groups of friends come in to play pool.It has something for everyone. There are poker tables with Texas Hold'em tournaments being run every weekend (for fun, not money). There's a video arcade with pinball, air hockey, racing games, and foosball. There's a stage for karaoke and occasionally live music.
Service is friendly and familiar. Guests are greeted warmly upon entry, offered drinks, and made to feel at home.Food is great basic stuff, like burgers and wraps and chicken wings. Their homemade specials--lasagna, shepherd's pie, etc.--tend to be excellent. I particularly like the squash soup in autumn--$3.95 for a hearty bowl, served with grilled Italian bread, cannot be beat anywhere on the street. Prices in general are very reasonable there.
It's north of Toronto's downtown core, in the Yonge/Eglinton area. It's address is 378 Eglinton Ave. W., or phone 416-483-5321 for directions.

I rarely ventured that far 'uptown'. I know it is really midtown, but hardly ever made it beyond Bloor Street. :-)
