Oh, Corsica. What a superb holiday. Just keep it to yourselves guys....this is such a wonderful island. situated to the west of Italy in the Med, above Sardinia. I went towards the end of June; July gets very busy as this is when the French holiday season starts and this is a really popular holiday destination for the French, being a French island and all. June was hot, very hot, superb for a beach holiday but without the crowds. We stayed near to Cargese, actually within 2 miles of the town which was walking distance, despite the heat. Disadvantage was a rather tricky drive from the airport. The beaches are stunning, sheltered coves with white sand, beautiful blue sea (The Med of course) fantastic swimming, and sunbathing. Restaurants - French cuisine with the Corsican twist, Corsicans are very proud of their heritage and the history makes them so. Corsica has been battled over by the French and the Italians, and so they have their own combination of influences which is totally unique. Having said that it is now a French island , but the Italian influence peeps out here and there. Back to the food, couldn't ask for better quality or value, absolutely superb. Hospitality - outstanding - genuine and warm Scenery - almost defies description - from white sands and blue seas to dramatic cliffs and beautiful scented mountain forests. It has to be seen to be believed - the island rises very steeply from beach to mountain - although driving can be hair-rasing to say the least - more than a few hairpin bends on narrow roads and steep climbs followed by plummeting falls - adds to the adventure if you can keep your eyes open!
What else can I say - there's a wide variety of water sports available, as well as horse riding, vineyard visits and wine tasting.
What do I remember most - trying to talk French to a little girl over dinner on a terrace in the sunset - the most fantastic scenery I have ever seen - warmth and friendliness - the Traiteur - the Patisierrie - being surrounded by French speaking voices only (this for me really made me feel like I was away, I did not hear one English accent during the entire holiday, that feels like escape)
i have been to corsica many times with my family and love the place. After meeting people there, and my parents telling me of the place there are still problems over there, terrorist groups causing trouble and bombing holiday homes. You can see evidence of this in graffiti there. But in recent years this has calmed down and i agree with you that it is a truely beautiful place with mountains, beaches, and traditional mediteranian people and places. I always feel like im in a film when im there.

A little bit more detail would've been nice. Also a comment on safety issues. As per the Foreign Office (http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket%2FXcelerate%2FShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029390518&action=search&sf=mini&referrer=FCO+Main&stq=0&pubId=1006886514545&q=corsica): "In Corsica sporadic bomb attacks on public buildings by the Corsican nationalist group, FLNC, continue."
