Compared to UK department stores I would say that El Corte Ingles could be at the same level as John Lewis, although some people might say that it would be closer to Selfridges.

Pros
- You could buy everything you need for your house, garden and lifestyle from El Corte Ingles.
- The stores provide excellent quality goods and good customer service. They have a wide range of own labels and also designer goods such as levi’s, Diesel, etc
Cons
- The prices might be seen as a bit too expensive for an average working person in Spain but quite competitive for UK visitors as the pound is still very strong. Overall, I would recommend this type of shop to those who want a one-stop-shop, however, Barcelona is well known for its shopping potential so it is advisable to walk around the main streets and try the smaller size or less known shops.
Advantages: Quality and choice Disadvantages: Price
Corte Ingles is the main department store in Spain, it is huge every major town has at least one and cities will have several. One of the main stores in Barcelona is at the top of the famous Ramblas. It is huge 7-8 floors ( I didnt count), covering everything from underwear to toys. The thing about Corte Ingles is the quality of the merchandise, it very rare to find shoddy cheap good but of course quality has a price. The mensware dept is as in British ... ...of good quality suits, at prices less than the uk. A good service provided the we Brits could learn from is that they will make same day, free alterations to even the cheapest of suites. If you are a shopaholic then Barcelona Corte Ingles is for you, if only to escape the intense summer heat by savouring the excellent air conditioning that the store provide. The store will also change currency for you but be prepared to queue and unless you are spending ...

Advantages: It's not Liverpool. It has shops and restaurants and what not. Disadvantages: It's not Manchester. It only has some shops and restaurants and what not.
took a taxi at a cost of about £13. Other alternatives are to take the train (every 30 minutes from Clot-Arago, Arc de Triomf, Placa Catalunya and Barcelona Sants stations) for about £3 or the bus from outside the CorteIngles department store for £1.50. These both run from 6am to midnight 6 days a week, and during more limited times on Sundays. No matter how you travel, the trip never takes more than half an hour. If you end up at the wrong terminal, there are also regular shuttle busses to the other 2.
** Good Points **
The airport was incredibly easy to navigate, and the whole place was spotlessly clean and shiny. There were lots of staff on hand to answer questions and they seemed nice and friendly – even pointing out to the homeless people hanging around where they could fill up their water bottles (in England one look ...
Advantages: you can meet different races Disadvantages: nothing
Of course, Barcelona isn't big like London or Paris with their 8/9 millions inhabitants, but it offers more attractions.
At first you can visit a lot of bars where you can have the first experience with the Spanish mentality. Then, you can visit the wonderful monuments of Gaudí like "Sagrada Familia" or "Parc Güell".
Barcelona has also one of the beautifulness pedestrian walkways (perhaps the beautifulness) of the world: "Las Ramblas". In "Las Ramblas" you can see a lot of artists with their sympathy way to make the people laughing. You can also visit an another walkway whose name is "La Rambla del mar". Here you have a wonderful view of the Mediterranean. You can also visit "La Plaza de Catalunya" where you can buy a lot of things in "El CorteInglés" (like Harrods). You can have your "relax time" in one of the wonderfulness beach ...
