When I decided on a short break down to London, I was totally stumped on somewhere to stay that was really close to the main attractions and also steered by the price.
The Corus Hotel Hyde Park looked to be in an ideal location just 5 minutes walk from Lancaster Gate Tube station (100 yards)and 15 minutes away from Heathrow Airport where I had flown into perfect I thought.
This hotel overlooks the infamous Hyde Park, hence the name and was only 3 stops from shoppers paradise.
As you approach the hotel you firstly spot the restaurant which is located at the front, you need to walk past this and turn right at the corner of the building to enter the reception, here you are greeted by two members of staff on the reception and there is also a concierge on hand to assist you with your bags. Check-in process was really simple and nothing out of the ordinary upon arrival into the hotel I simply stated my name and my booking was retrieved as with most hotels I needed to provide an imprint of my card incase any damage occured to the room and incase I did a moonlight flit!! I was then presented with a key card and directed to my room, there were 3 lifts in the hotel and easy to find as they were centrally located in the lobby area, all the rooms are clearly labelled with the numbers and signs indicate which way to go to access your room.
The hotel advertised 390 bedrooms and this showed as when I entered my bedroom it was tiny, and resembled that of a cabin on board an economy cruise I walked through the door and the bed took up most of the room to the right with a small window that did not offer the view of Hyde Park and opposite the door to the room was a desk with tea and coffee making facilities (present in every Corus Hotel)complete with tasty biscuits, the colour television was a small portable placed on wall brackets and there was also an alarm clock on the bedside table next to the bed.
Due to the lack of space, I began to worry as I thought that it was a shared bath something I had not even thought about checking on but there was a bathroom to the left and it was small to say the least the bath was the width of the room and a toilet and very small basin were next to it, it was an impossibility to fit two people in there at a time. In the bathroom general amenities were provided which consisted of Corus branded soap, shower gel and shampoo great if you forget the basics and you could always contact reception if you found that you had forgotton a necessity such as your toothbrush! There were also white fluffy towels which could be replaced by housekeeping at your convenience.Provided in the cost of the room which was GBP49.95 a night was a full cooked breakfast located in a modern eating area on the ground floor there was a choice of a hot buffet breakfast, continental breakfast, fresh fruit and also a variety of other options available for an added cost which included smoked salmon something I quite fancied!!
The hotel boasts 80 Laura Ashley designed rooms which I would probably class as the executive rooms which are a bit more pricey, I was in a standard room and although it was small it had air conditioning and was clean and modern.
Olio is the name of the restaurant located in the hotel and although I did not experience anything in this resturant it looked a real treat.
Overall this is a great location if you are planning a trip to London as it is in a superb location, offering a peaceful retreat from the busy capital of the UK.
