Advantages: Central location but quiet, elegant, luxurious Disadvantages: Central location but not too easy to find
I often go to France for short breaks, usually from Poole to Cherbourg but recently for a change, and because of some business in Kent, my wife and I decided to revisit one of our favourite hotels, the Hotel Meurice, in the very centre of Calais.
We spent a Saturday and a Sunday night there at the beginning of February 2008 and we weren't disappointed. Last time we had been here was about 10 yrs ago when its elegant interior was a bit jaded. It has been improved since, although there are still little bits here and there that need some TLC.
Let's get straight to the point - Calais isn't the most attractive town in France so who would want to stay here? Well we did. We wanted several things that the Meurice allowed us to do.
It allowed us to wallow in the hotel's luxury for a couple of days.
It allowed us to refresh our wine ...
Advantages: Suspense built well in parts, a bit funny at times. Disadvantages: Poor script, very flat film on the whole, lacks overall energy and excitement.
From director Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton), 'The Cottage' is a comedy horror film which originally achieved a UK cinematic release in March 2008. This dark British film stars Andy Serkis, Reece Shearsmith, and Jennifer Ellison.
Brothers David and Peter come up with a master plan in order to bag a large sum of cash between them. The plan is that they'll kidnap the daughter of a big time gangster, hold her hostage, and demand £100,000 ransom. It all seems so simple, it doesn't quite go according to plan however and before long everything starts to go wrong for the two brothers. As the £100,000 looks increasingly less likely to become theirs, things go from bad to worse and the brothers, along with their hostage Tracey find themselves to be in a very sticky situation indeed. This bungled kidnapping gets incredibly messy as ...

Advantages: A charming hotel conveniently situated in the New Forest. Disadvantages: Expensive meal - £60 per head and we didn't have any alchohol.
We chose this hotel after much research as it appeared to have a good restaurant. We were not dissappointed, the food was very good, beautifully presented but, in our opinion, very expensive ...at over £60 per head excluding alchohol.
The hotel itself was very pretty, although the room was small (what you'd expect of a cottage) it was well equipped, clean and tidy. The decor was a little tired though - but then owners have not been there long. Take care on the stairs - they are amongst the steepest you are likely to come across!
We did find the Maitre de a little humourless and not terribly forthcoming but in general the staff were efficient and I would recommend a stay here. ...
Cottage Hotel is a modern hotel with a pillared portico, situated between the Eurotunnel terminal and Calais city center, and about one kilometer from each. The beach is 800 meters away. Rooms are simply decorated in light colors, with polished wood furniture and warm patterned fabrics. Free parking and a 24 hour front desk make it easy for passengers in transit, but for those planning to stay a little longer longer there is a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a bar. Meeting rooms may be hired. The hotel has a welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast room is very bright and relaxing and there is also a restaurant where guests can try the local cuisine. After a day shopping, sightseeing or travelling, guests can unwind and have a relaxing drink in the bar.
