Country Inn East, Munich

Advantages: close to the motorway, cheap
Disadvantages: TOO close to the motorway!

...We have recently travelled up to Scotland from Devon and on the way home needed to break up the 12 hour journey. We stopped at Premier Travel Inn - Preston East. This Travel Inn is literally right beside the southbound motorway near junction 31a northbound. We were travelling Southbound, so had to come off at junction 31, join the northbound and come off at junction 31a. PRICE ++++++ We paid £48 for a room which is Friday to Sunday rates. Monday to Thursday would cost £51. BOOKING ++++++++ We had an AA Road Atlas with us and also a directory of all the Premier Travel Inn's in the country. This is a very handy booklet as it has directions and location for each Travel Inn. I telephoned the Inn and was put through to a central number as they were busy. ...of Wittelsbach which ended in 1918 than about the Munich of today. We heard that Munich was bombarded and destroyed so badly during WW2, 70% of the city lay in ruins, that it was considered to leave it like that and built a completely new city in the countryside, that was certainly interesting news, but then we learnt that after the war when the Americans helped the West Germans with the Marshall plan the Germans ´suddenly´ became diligent and busy and built up the country in no time. Ha! Germans have always been diligent and busy, only recently, during the last decade, some people have started discovering that corruption is an easier way to success and only recently Germany has fallen back economically from being the ´European Locomotive´ to one of the last wagons of the train. ...nearer 8 hours than 6). I arrived at Pontypool station at 5pm on a cold, windy day in what looked like monsoon season; I don’t think I had ever been so glad to see a hotel as I was then. Admittedly, Holiday Inn Express wouldn’t be my first choice of accommodation (previous experience had taught me that they were lacklustre at best) but there was nothing else locally available outside of summer season, and at least it was close to the county museum I would be visiting the next day. **Where exactly…?** Let me start by explaining where this place is – I am aware that I got a lot of blank looks when I told people I was off to Pontypool!
