...Polkemmet Country is situated in West Lothian some 15 miles from Edinburgh. Entrance is obtained from the B7066 one mile West of Whitburn or the Harthill road.. Whitburn can be accessed from J3a of the M8 motorway which is the main route from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Among the facilities available are Information Centre,Waymarked walking Trails, Golfing, Restaurant, Bowling Green, Picnic and Barbeque areas, Play areas and a Bar. Brief Outline Polkemmet was owned by the Baillie family from 1620 to 1957 and they played a major part in the life of the local community. ...The Alpine Restaurant at Denshaw was the chosen venue to celebrate my parent's Ruby Wedding Anniversary last week. I think it would be fair to say that we are not exactly regulars at this fine establishment as do I believe the last time any of us went was actually over 18 years ago, when we had an 18th birthday party for my sister. Well, if you go to a place too often, it spoils it doesn't it? Geographically speaking, Denshaw is close to Junction 21 of the M62 and forms part of the district of Saddleworth. Many roads meet here, and so the town and restaurant are easily accessible from Oldham, Rochdale, Huddersfield and Halifax, and it is definitely worth the trip when you see the views over the surrounding countryside and towns and the restaurant's location is fantastic.
