Courtyard by Marriott Devon, Wayne

Advantages: Convenient location, no fuss, Marriott standards.
Disadvantages: It's clearly Marriott's poor relation - but not a major "con"!

...I?ve done it yet again! I?ve stayed in Slough. To remind you, Sir john Betjeman wrote: Come Bombs, and fall on Slough, It isn?t fit for humans now! There isn?t grass to graze a cow. Come, friendly bombs Swarm over, death! The bombs have not come, yet. Slough is still standing. And Priceline send me back there time and time again. I accept an element of blame; perhaps I?m growing fond of the place. Perhaps the fact that the ?Legoland? theme park is nearby and that Josh absolutely loves it is a bonus. Whatever! We found ourselves in Slough once again; this time, at the Courtyard by Marriott. It?s officially rated as a 3 star hotel, and I was not exactly enamoured about the idea of staying there (the Slough issue aside) ? so I?ll try to say exactly why I?m wary of three-star hotels. Advantages: room layouts, decor and cleanliness
Disadvantages: understaffed reception and no internet

...On our way to Salzburg, we stopped over in Linz for a night and managed to find a good deal online (no breakfast included). Because it was raining when we were there, we never tried taking the bus but instead, zipped around in cabs. Location is good enough that fares to the main plaza were still reasonable. We liked: - The room and its bed - cosy yet with enough space to move around. Having been to its sister hotel in Vienna (Courtyard, Schonbrunn), we were slightly disappointed to discover that the room lacked tea-making facilities. - The quietness, neatness and tidiness - Bathroom cleanliness - Views from our window. - Service (was very good) Didn't like: - Undermanned areas - reception was understaffed when we were checking out (Saturday). The frazzled receptionist had to deal with about 5 or more people, with more people turning... Read review

...I stayed at the Marriott Royal County recently.The hotel is very easy to find. Local shops are only a five minute walk away as are local pubs and restaurants. This hotel also makes a good choice. One problem you might find is trying to find a parking space. This is an ideal location from which to explore Durham. There is an indoor heated pool. The service in the hotel was first class.
