Covent Garden Rock Cafe is my pick for where to eat. It's been going for around 25 years and has been the venue where big time bands have played when they were unheard of or have eaten there (eg. The Police, Dire Straits, Mick Jagger, Pulp). There's a great atmosphere, with rock/soul music playing, pictures of the stars who have eaten there plastered on the walls, friendly staff and huge food portions.
If you've ever been shopping in London, you'll know that Oxford and Regent Street are the more commercial areas of London. Good for brand names, but I enjoy visiting London to get hold of things I can't get elsewhere and also to go somewhere where there's less traffic and noise. The new rennovations look fantastic in keeping with the style of architecture, with a good range of shops. There are still some chain stores, but in much nicer surroundings, you'll find places like Paperchase, The Gadget Shop, Quicksiver and The Disney Store. Venture into the market and you'll find a range of unique items from craftspeople and artists alongside small shops for clothing, gifts, toys and plenty more. The cafe right in the centre is a good stop off and there is permanently a string quartet playing to help you unwind.

Literally just off Covent Garden is Neal Street where you'll find even more unique shops and places to eat. Most of the shops are small with a few exceptions such as Neal Street East. This shop is a great Oriental store crammed to the roof with books on alternative health, furnishings, kitchenware, gifts and jewellery all at bargain prices....a real gem of a shop in this area.
So, with attractive surroundings, unique shopping, great places to stuff yourself with food and plenty of streets to wander off to nearby, I'd recommend this place to any serious shopper.

Visiting Covent Garden is a method of self-torture for myself being a shopaholic. Out of all the shopping areas of London this, along with Camden, is a must visit.
There are basically two main areas to visit; turn left out of the station and travel down Neal Street to find yourself surrounded by a multitude of designer shops; turn right and you will find your way to the market which houses more main stream shops and some restaurants.
The latter ... ...clear at peak times.
Covent Garden tube station is on the Piccadilly line but is within walking distance from most central areas such as Oxford Street, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square. Taking a walk around central London is only a short journey and well worth while.

INTRODUCTION
Covent Garden is just about my favourite place in London.
In the late 1980s I suffered from stress and depression. I found that going to Covent Garden every Saturday morning cheered me up no end.
My wife and I visited Covent Garden recently on Saturday 15th September.
GETTING THERE
Covent Garden tube station is located on the Piccadilly Line on the tube. The tube train is always crowded, as the previous stops are Piccadilly Circus ... ...right and you are in Covent Garden.
If you are daring you can park here but the parking meters cost £4 per hour. Some street parking is available during the summer.

TINTIN SHOP
As you walk towards the centre of Covent Garden you have to cross a street called Floral Street.
Turn right here and after about 150 yards you reach the Tintin shop.

Advantages: Lots of places to shop, indoors or outdoors! (and nice Waffles!) Disadvantages: The usual disadvantages of London (pickpockets, traffic, crowded, etc.)
I've been to Covent Garden a couple of times, once a few years ago and once a few days ago, and I am still yet to have explored all of it! Not only is there the huge marketplace but it is also surrounded by lots of other shops too. The famous market area is covered with a roof and home to lots and lots of stalls selling cheap clothes, jewellery, accessories etc. - lots of very low prices, especially considering this is bang in the middle of London, ... ...spent a few hours in Covent Garden, and we thought it was great, frittering away our pocket money on cheap hair grips and little things at these stalls. As well as the stalls, the market is home to shops including high-street big-name stores like Monsoon (at least 2 or 3 branches here... they seem to be taking over the place!), but there's also a selection of small, independent shops - one to note is England Rocks, which sells all kinds of memorabilia ...

...always wanted to go to Covent Garden. When first arriving in London I headed to Covent Garden and since then I've been many times and take all my overseas visitors there.
Getting there by train is your first taste of something different. On arriving at the tube station there is a sign to tell you that you can walk up but the stairs, but upon reading the high number of stairs (I think it's in the hundreds!) you will most certainly decide to take ... ...right and you are there, Covent Garden is just a short walk in front of you.
That walk is so neat. Buskers, entertainers and of course the now expected living 'statue' - if you take a photo of them be prepared to pay or you'll receive some ridicule from the artists.
Covent Garden's history is old, enduring and so important to London and how it has evolved in the arts, theatre, trading, entertainment, dining and of course the market stalls. It's ...

This Pizza restaurant is situated in coventgarden opposite the Roadhouse Irish pub in the heartland of theatre district. It is only a few minutes walk from both Coventgarden tube and the strand / Charring cross station.
The menu should best be described as a wide selection of pizzas based upon cities from around the world. These dishes can range from moderatly classical pizzas (pepperonni for the New Yorker) to slightly more exotic (Bombay featuring spicey chicken, mango chuckny and broccolli). There is also a selection (if slightly limited) range of salads, starters and pasta dishes.

I like Fire and Stone. I find the global themed menu fun and innovative. Its a place that would suit a number of occasions from a birthday party, to supper out or even a nice date if you got one of the booths. It is also relaxed enough for families and there is a children's menu. For those bargain hunters they do a range of special offers such as two pizzas for a tenner, £10 after 10 meal deal and a £5.50 lunch. All details can be found on the website.

So, you are spending the day in London but for whatever reason you have done “the major tourist sights” and can’t see the difference between shopping in Oxford Street and at your out of town mall (other than the fact that it is easier to park, inside, less crowded, more compact but has the same shops). What do you do?
You could do worse than head to that area of London called CoventGarden. CoventGarden is possibly one of the most ill-defined areas of London. Most people think only of the market when they hear the name but in truth the area spreads further than that, out to Leicester Square to the west and the Strand to the south, CoventGarden is as spread out as it is diverse and there truly is something for everyone here.
