We like to party, we like, we like to party... MALIA 08
Advantages: the night life is amazing and you won't be short of things to do during the day! Disadvantages: quite a violent place but if you keep your heads down you will be fine
Lovely place, very taylor made for your average 18-30 holiday. Great place to go if you are wanting a fun, sea, sand and LOTS of alcohol holiday, with the main stretch of bars supplying you with enough alcohol for the rest of your life in one night, this is the best place to go if you if you want a holiday in Greece.
I was shocked to find there was a lot of violence and that the men over there hit women. It was a real culture shock to me, but other ... ...and I wouldn't have changed it...
the bars were pretty good too, there was club tropicana which had a club and an outdoor bar, and we loved sitting outside there for most of the night as we were normally too drunk after being collard by most of the poachers for 5 drinks for 5 Euro's. If we did manage to stuble past the first few sets of bars, we would normally end up having a drink in Bar One, this has a roof overhead, but there are no doors to ...

Crete overall
Advantages: Sightseeing, markets, weather, amenities, culture, friendly people, nightlife, food. Disadvantages: Euro rate. Some places shut due to economy. Drivers.
...much fun. Crete has a wide range of things to do and see. The beautiful scenic area of Elounda and Chania is for a quieter holiday. You can also visit Santorini on a day trip but beware that the boat can be a bit choppy sometimes and delayed. There is also the 'leper' island of Spinalonga, which is interesting historically. You can do the full on historic adventure in Crete if you wish and the famous Knossos Palace is a favourite, although dont expect ... ...leaves!
The centre of Crete is Heraklion, which is a modern town with a maze of streets with various little shops. Big names like Zara are in one street and a small market off this for souvenirs and eating places. However, the best bargains are found on a Saturday when the large outside market is held. This is located just outside the centre, in walking distance, but if you do not know the town better to take a taxi there. There you will find shoes ...

Crete, Stalis Holiday August/Sept 2007
Advantages: Plenty of restaurants, good bus service, but still places to find peace and quite. Disadvantages: transfer from airport due to the amount of drop offs took 1.5 hours
...There any many restaurants in Stalis and also 20 minutes walk away in Malia. Our favourite place to eat is in old Malia as it is very pretty at night especially when all the fairy lights are on around the old restaurants. We like San Georgio's and also Elizabeth Stabilos which are lovely pretty restaurants and the food is excellent and you feel you are eating somewhere really special and romantic. We did not book any of the reps tours and chose to ... ...there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants there. On the headland there is a bizantine church and you are able to visit free and see the mozaics. We also went by bus to Agios Nicholias which is very pretty and there are plenty of shops and boats trips. We went by boat to Spinalonga island which was used as a leper colony until 1959. The trip lasted 4 hours stopping off for a 20 minute swim, tour around the island by boat and then a one hour ...

Aghios Nikolaos - the place to holiday-os!
Advantages: Picturesque, friendly, great weather Disadvantages: Nightlife fairly quiet
...and food it offers. Aghios Nikolaos (AgNik) is no exception to the rule.
We booked thorugh Kosmar to stay in the Dilina Rooms on a bed and breakfast basis. On first approaching the 'hotel' in the middle fo the night we were quite worried that it was a bit of a shed, however, after sleeping then waking in the morning for breakfast we were warmly welcomed by the owners - Nikki and her husband ( I forgot his name). Breakfast consisted of bread and ... ...drink. One day a week Nikki went to market and served fruits and on a Sunday she brought some different breads from church. The personal touch was really sweet.
At the welcome meeting we discovered that the owners were actually famous across the island for their dancing - in the breakfast room downstairs they would hold massive dance events and cram locals and tourists in, serve wine and home cooked foods. There are various cuttings on the wall ...

A resort only suitable for those with no class
Advantages: Beach , scenery, cheap food and drink Disadvantages: Chavs, PRs
This is the typical scene in the resort of Malia: Beer guts spilling over shorts and bikini bottoms, chavs drinking from morning till night and holidaymakers who bear a close resemblance to raw slabs of meat roasting themselves under the sun. The worst parts of a holiday in Malia has to be the relentless PRs and reps who don't understand the meaning of 'no', and the gut-wrenching din of ripping quad bike engines turning a what should be a simple ... ...purpose of going on holiday outside of your country is to embrace a whole other culture, but unfortunately every aspect of Malia has been Anglicized in the worst possible way- from the greasy fry-ups to the tacky souvenir shops selling t-shirts emblazoned 'Good girls go to Heaven, Bad Girls go to Malia'... Don't get me wrong- Malia has the potential to be a decent enough holiday resort with it's beautiful mountains, ancient ruins and crystal clear ...
