Independent travellers find Real Crete at Villa Aliki in Myrtos!
Advantages: Year round subshine, warm sea, empty beaches, all facilities, good price, no herds of tourists. Disadvantages: Very difficulty to say goodbye.
...the four villas run by Villa Aliki. They are ideally situated up the hill from the beach to benefit from the cooling breezes. They have terraces, balconies and gardens, and each apartment has two large bedrooms and a substantial living room/kitchen. Owned, designed and built by a Crete enthusiast from The Netherlands, Villa Aliki has those little luxuries that visitors are used to, yet not always available in Greek-owned hotels. For example: hot ... ...who can solve any problem, and answer any query it seems.
My family and I have stayed at Villa Aliki for a month each year since 2007. The olny problem we have found is leaving the place at the end of our holiday...it is very difficult to say goodbye. ...

Fab time would go again !!
Advantages: Variety of things to do ! Disadvantages: price
We went here in 2006. Me, my partner and our 8 year old son. We had a fab time. Loved every minute of it. Our son was in his element with the water slides. The staff/reps were fab and made a real effort to get to know you, and we had a laugh every night. There is a club where your children can go in the evning for a few hours whilst you have a little 'me' time. We chose not to do this as a personal preference although that has nothing to do with ...

Fantastic view on the port
Advantages: Very nice hotel, great value for money Disadvantages: candles in the terrace would have been a +.
...Crete where I stayed in Casa Leone Hotel in Chania. The hotel has 5 rooms so it is very feeling like home. The room we were in is the honey moon suite. Fantastic terrace overlooking the port. We spent many start of evening there have some wine we could store in the fridge that is in the room. The hotel provides you with glasses and corksrew. This was very romantic. The room is great too but I didn't spent much time in it. The bed is very large and ... ...is not repettivie and it makes you feel even more at home. The yogurt was delicious. The main room of the hotel has very high ceiling and a column in the middle. Venitian style I was told. To be honest it is very beautiful. Staffis fantastic too and you have free internet. Excellent value for money. website: casa-leone.com I believe. ...

Despo Hotel is my only getaway.
Advantages: Its quiet and very family friendly. Disadvantages: There is a main road in front of Despo it would be better with a proper crossing.
Despo Hotel in gouves is my only get away. I love to stay at Despo as the people are so friendly and the hotel is safe and private. As it is not a massive hotel (74 rooms) you can really relax when you have children. My little girl loves to come hear for our holidays. The staff are so lovely and very friendly they know who you are from the moment you check in and always say hello. The rooms are lovely and clean, you can see the sea from all the front ...

A 4 Star Pretending to be a 5 Star.
Advantages: Great for Families Disadvantages: Nothing to do at night.
Sensatori Hotel, Crete. The flight from terminal 2 Manchester was a standard, cramped affair with the usual tasteless flight meal and rushing to get off the plane before it has even stopped moving. Upon arrival at Crete, your luggage comes through fairly quickly. It is smallish airport with 4 small carousels. You will need to exit the terminal between carousels 1 and 2 because right outside of there are the 2 Thomson huts waiting ... ...the coach and the next time you see them is in your room. You will have to fill in a small form listing your full name and passport number and this will be taken from you at reception check in. 20 minutes later and the coach drops you right outside main reception. You are greeted with a soft drink or alcoholic cocktail. Check in takes 5 minutes and then you are left to find your own room. The cash points are hit and miss and you may find yourself ...
