Koni Village - one of my best hotels ever!
Advantages: Large complex, 2 swimming pools, chapel, tennis courts, supermarket, peaceful Disadvantages: Location
...and we stayed at the Koni Village. We originally chose Stalis as a cheaper option to Malia for our small, girly clubbing holiday, but both myself and my friend are as modest as the size of our group, so Stalis also appealed to us as it is away from the noise and uncleanliness of Malis.
When we arrived at Koni Village, we were impressed with the accomodation itself (didn't really notice the location too much until later, read on!) due to various ... ...the word village definitely describes Koni perfectly. The hotel has 2 swimming pools, a large one for the louder people of the day, and a smaller one for this people who wish to relax. Both very clean and poolside is well maintained. Their is also a very good value supermarket, but admittedly not that big - take note, there is a SPAR in Malia, save your Euros and go there, otherwise, all the Stalis supermarkets are about the same price, although ...

Join in the Fun
Advantages: Friendly Atmosphere, family oriented Disadvantages: Slight walk to nearest restaurants and beach, late nights around the bar.
We've stayed at the Nikos apartments twice and will be going again this summer -Why- because it's such a great place to be.
OK those of you who have been to Greece know that on the whole the accommodation is basic, but at Nikos they try very hard, even a toaster and a kettle.
Apartments for 4 usually consist of a double bedroom, a living room with kitchen area, dining table and chairs and 2 extra beds.
There's a decent shower room, even has a ... ...a balcony or terrace with table chairs and an airing line for the washing. Air-conditioning and safety deposit boxes are avaiable for hire.
The gardens are lovely, but the best features are the pool and the bar area. There are plenty of sunloungers for those of you who like to sunbathe while the bar is open from breakfast time until late. It's the hub of the apartments. All the staff are very friendly but Van and Effi are the main stays of the place. ...

Falsely accused of theft and threatened by staff
Advantages: Near to beach Disadvantages: Terrifying
Avoid this hotel. On the second day of our stay here, we moved rooms and found a carrier bag in the fridge containing two beers and some yoghurts left by the previous occupants, which we put in our packed lunch. Half an hour later, the bar manager burst into our room, stuck his head in the fridge and started screaming at the top of his voice. It took five minutes of him screaming for me in Greek to work out that he was after the beers. When I realised ... ...- at which point he went utterly balistic. I thought he was going to attack me (my wife was now frightened to tears and I was half in shock) - he chased me around the room howling with aggression, then grabbed the phone and started yelling 'police' and several other words which I later found out to be fairly disgusting insults. All I could do was plead for him to fetch someone who spoke English. Eventually he stamped out with the beers.
It sounds ...

Independent travellers find Real Crete at Villa Aliki in Myrtos!
Advantages: Year round subshine, warm sea, empty beaches, all facilities, good price, no herds of tourists. Disadvantages: Very difficulty to say goodbye.
...the four villas run by Villa Aliki. They are ideally situated up the hill from the beach to benefit from the cooling breezes. They have terraces, balconies and gardens, and each apartment has two large bedrooms and a substantial living room/kitchen. Owned, designed and built by a Crete enthusiast from The Netherlands, Villa Aliki has those little luxuries that visitors are used to, yet not always available in Greek-owned hotels. For example: hot ... ...who can solve any problem, and answer any query it seems.
My family and I have stayed at Villa Aliki for a month each year since 2007. The olny problem we have found is leaving the place at the end of our holiday...it is very difficult to say goodbye. ...

Fab time would go again !!
Advantages: Variety of things to do ! Disadvantages: price
We went here in 2006. Me, my partner and our 8 year old son. We had a fab time. Loved every minute of it. Our son was in his element with the water slides. The staff/reps were fab and made a real effort to get to know you, and we had a laugh every night. There is a club where your children can go in the evning for a few hours whilst you have a little 'me' time. We chose not to do this as a personal preference although that has nothing to do with ...
