I live 5 minutes from Crewe town centre, and have the 'pleasure' shall we say, of using these facilities. Any visitors to Crewe will be well aware of the fact that this is no major city, by far. Crewe is just backwards place, known mainly for its railway station, and possibly the worlds worst football team - Crewe Alexandra.
Crewe town centre consists mainly of sports shops, and small cafes. I guess you could throw in some jewellery stores with that too. The town square, which is really nothing to look twice at, is usually occupied by unemployed middle-aged people using the seating, or crowds of chavs and such like, looking for some unsuspecting victim. Thankfully, the council has approved building plans for a new shopping centre with a debenhams (woot!!!) so hopefully, itll all be looking relatively modern soon, instead of the currentthrow back to the 20's style concrete buildings.
The bus station currently dominates the town centre, and I guess you could say that the public transport in and around town is good. Possibly one of the few good things I have to say about Crewe, is that Ive never had a problem with public transport (not even with the chavs on them) However, commuters etc using the trains may have a problem since it is over a mile away from the town centre. Although there is a bus service from the train station to the bus station.
Crewe is not the typical town, with a relatively small town centre, but with a small retail park less than a mile away, and a major-road high stree, close to the train station. Where you are most likely to find more jewellery shops, clothes stores, pubs and restaurants.
Crewe is not known for its night-life although it has its share of pubs, and a handful of clubs which support crewes budding musicians. For a small town, the night-life is nothing to complain about. With several big clubs in the neighbouring towns such as Nantwich.
Are you ready for this?....This could possibly be Crewe's finest achievement! Its South Cheshire College - rated the top college in the country. Currently an A-level student here, I can truely say that this is a God send to Crewe. With a modern floor-to-roof glass sides, the main building sparkles its way into my favourite places to be in Crewe. And once again, their are more development plans. The college is going to be totally reconstructed in a new ultra-modern design.
Unless you have plans for a tour of the college, or maybe the railway, and the 'rail-age' miniature museum, then there is definitely a lack of things to do, for both residents and tourists. although we dont generally get many of those round here, considering were about an hours drive from the nearest beach, and 30 mins drive from the nearest city (Chester)
Unfortunately, a large percentage of Crewe's residents are chavs. Dont get me wrong, I dont Hate chavs.....no, wait - YES I DO!!! Crewe was named the U.K's chav captial. now do you understand my deep loathing of this place? Chavs only really seemed to start appearing roughly 5 years ago, but since then, they've taken off in a major way. Hence, in the less wealthier areas of Crewe (most of it) - where the chavs seem to rule the world (or at least their backyard) there are vast amounts of vandalism, fights, litter and graffiti. Crewe was also named one of the top 5 most dangerous places to live in cheshire.
However, Crewe does have the UK famous, if not world famous, Rolls Royce factory. At least Crewe has something to cheer about. This does however support my theory that there are high levels of pollution in Crewe. I take any chance I get to escape to the clean air and space of Wales. You really can tell the difference between the pollution levels, and its a wonderful feeling to escape the claustrophobic cloud of putridity (if thats a word?!)
Crewe has many smaller villages and towns on the out-skirts including Willaston, and Wistaston. These have a better reputation than Crewe, although to be fair, thats not hard! However, there is once again a down side, as House prices in Crewe and its surrounding area is extortionate, compared to other areas of the same quality.
If my review hasnt made you think twice about coming to Crewe (and I start to worry about your mental health at this point) Then there are several large hotels, although they are expensive to say the least. Unfortunately I dont have enough info on these to write anything of substance, hence my review isnt on the hotels specifically!
I really could ramble on about Crewe all day, but Im sure I would bore you, so if you require any more information, then leave a comment, and Ill edit review asap.
So, to summarise, If you dont want to be beaten up by chavs, and other fools (who really need to go back to school to learn english) and you dont want to study in SC college, and youre not after a bentley or Rolls Royce, then there is nothing here for you.
Failing that, all I have to say is.....I warned you!
Advantages: Look around give it a chance Disadvantages: first impressions
I live just outside Crewe and go here very often, including to work on a Saturday, and it is a lovely place with everything you could ever want.
Crewe isn't known for it's nightlife but it has the usual nightclubs and pubs a cinema and bingo but remember it is just a small town. All the sports you could ever want to play are acommodated for and there is a beautiful park complete with a boating lake and swans.
Plus during summer you get Punch and ... ...don't be too harsh
Crewe developed from a railway town and still has the orginal station and town hall. It has big indoor and outdoor markets where you can buy everything from fresh fish to material and DIY, as well as a more modern shopping centre for clothes and other items.
I think Crewe is a really nice place to visit and live. I recommend a visit to Queen's Park it is a beautiful place and the town is nice too. We even have a fish and chip ...

Advantages: Nice theatre Disadvantages: Its never going to be a popular tourist destination
Crewe is not the best town in the world. Its shops are the usual array of highstreet stores with nothing original or unusual about them. Its cinema is second rate at best and its town centre never looks appealing.
However it does have some good points. First there is the lyceum. This is a good little theatre with resonably priced tickets and a wide array of shows. The market is large and has a good secondhand book stall.
The bus station offers ... ...Queens park for small children.
Crewe is not a dynamic centre of development. It is not much more than a small north town with little to rteccommend it above the fact that it is quite nice if you have a few hours to spare and don't expect much. ...

If you find yourself at Crewe station with a two hour wait while you are changing trains, preferably on a wet Sunday evening, take a walk into Crewe town centre. Years ago, my father did this, eventually asking a local where the town centre was. “You’re in it”, he was told. A brief look around will immediately reveal why this is the part of the country where you can buy an entire street of houses for one pound. The town is, in a word or two, the ... ...leave towns such as Crewe and move to, say, Guildford where everything is vastly more expensive and where the people are so “toffee-nosed”, as Northerners constantly like to tell us. In Flight Service
--------------------
Ingeneral, I don?t think this could be faulted. The cabin crew, while generally subservient in approach, could not do enough and certainly worked much harder than the BA staff on the dozen or so business class journeys I have made across the same route. My outbound flight was overnight, while the return was during the daytime. On the day flight, the cabin crew brought trays of fresh non alcoholic drinks every hour or so, implicitly promoting the importance of regular non alcoholic fluids. Alcohol was available throughout during meals and on request, although I stuck to the H2O. There were eight video channels, plus radio channels with a reasonable mix of entertainment. Blankets and freshen up packs were also provided.

Advantages: non-stop flights to the UK from Qatar Disadvantages: cabin crew not firm enough with unruly passengers
Qatar Airways do have very modern aircraft, especially on long haul flights. However, be prepared to put up with unruly children in economy class as their parents are normally 'sitting comfortably' in Club Class! The cabin crew should try and be firmer with these 'little darlings', but the majority of them fear for their jobs as the kids parents are often influential people in Qatar. Having said this, the food is good and the crew are multi-lingual and generally efficient. Flights are usually punctual and check-in facilities are better than they used to be. Unaccompanied minors, children travelling without their parents/guardians, are looked after extremely well and are sometimes treated to a visit to the cock-pit and given small gifts. For some strange reason though, flights from UK - Qatar - UK are cheaper than Qatar - UK - Qatar. This ...

I quite liked the one I was given though, because when you’re an out-of-practice broadsheet reader, the position of the solo seats does help to prevent you annoying your neighbour as you try to navigate the silly things. The crewingeneral were good, but one of the pilots left a little to be desired. He seemed to have a love affair with the tannoy because was always coming on to natter to us, but what he said, at least in English and German, often showed he knew little about what he was talking – not a huge vote of confidence. “We’re running rather late, but we should land only about 15 ...
