Advantages: Exclusive Disadvantages: Expensive and pretentious
route as there's not much danger of lingering in the shops.
It's a very pleasant stroll all the same. Like a lot of central Rome, the streets around here are in a vague grid pattern and are pretty narrow with not a lot of sunlight reaching down to street level. This keeps it relatively cool and the prospect of the Spanish Steps at the end of the streets is an appealing vista.
Most of the street is pedestrianised although there are other streets crossing it that are open to vehicles so it's best to keep your wits about you as most Italian drivers don't.
We stopped here for lunch at a little place just off Via Condotti on Via Borgognona, and although it wasn't particularly cheap, I was surprised that it wasn't a total rip off being situated in this locale. To be fair, there are reasonably priced shops around, but I suppose the whole ...

Advantages: Walking distance from home Disadvantages: Not worth walking to
Let's get one thing straight right away. Tony Romas doesn't have a restaurant in Edinburgh but there is a newly opened one in Livingston. Can the ciao database be wrong? It hardly bears thinking about. Anyway, Livingston is close enough to Edinburgh as far as I'm concerned and it should be for you too.
Phase 3 of Livingston's town centre opened just in time for Xmas last year and one of the features was an outdoor 'promenade' of sorts featuring a number of restaurant chains including Nandos, Wagamama, Chiipolatas (or some such Mexican-type thing) among others. Among the others is Tony Romas.
I can't say I was all that tempted by chicken piri-pri or guacamachillilitos, so Tony Romas it was to be.
Livingston is just the place for a corporate branded, characterless chain restaurant - we don't do quaint or cute here. So shiny ...
Advantages: Comfortable hotel - handy for the metro Disadvantages: Characterless - can be expensive
of traffic - it didn't help that the lift would shoot off to wherever someone pressed a button whether it went past your floor or not - reminded me of a half-built hotel on the Spanish costas.
The hotel is shaped like a giant cross with the lift banks in a central area and four corridors leading from it. Luckily, all the rooms have numbers so it wasn't too difficult to navigate our way to ours.
The room was nice enough, but not really to my taste decor wise. The furniture was new but old fashioned and to my mind, there's nothing worse than mock antique. The woodwork was a mottle veneer of some sort with mock leather tops. Handy for sitting a TV on top off (you'd think these days it would be a flat screen but there you go). It was a good size TV though and we had around 50 channels from all over the world - jeezo, you think Brit Tv is bad (and ...
