My boyfriend booked us 3 nights in this hotel for a relaxing / sightseeing weekend. He gave me the address and told me to meet him there (we live in separate towns). I spent a good 45 mins driving in circles around harrogates' one way system, but eventually I managed to find it. I was gobsmacked - it looked magnificent!!! Its a huge taditional style building (it was origionally a coaching inn)overlooking a sort of mini park with grass and flowers - very pretty.

The hotel lobby is really posh and luxurious feeling, with plenty of very smartly dressed staff. The ceilings are very high with traditional looking columns and furnishings. I was quite overawed, it all looked very posh (and pricey) to me.

As we left the lobby and started to climb the stairs to our room on the 3rd floor (the lift seemed to be out of order) I noticed that the decor was beginning to look somewhat less well maintained. The further up we went, the more run down it got. By the time we reached our room I was beginning to feel slightly dubious. On the landing there was wall paper hanging off the walls, very damp looking patches, the carpets looked old and worn and there was a stepladder lying on the floor.

The room was a decent size, but looked old and tired - the carpet had stains, the paintwork was chipped, and the wallpaper was beginning to curl at the edges. However, the "double bed" (two singles pushed together) was fairly comfortable and there was a kettle with complimentary tea, coffee, milk, hot chocolate and biscuits. The shower was amazing - really good spray and they had provided soap, shower gel, shower cap etc. There was also the usual desk, chairs, wardrobe, which were all adequate. The tv had good reception and was a decent size.

It was quite noisy in the room when other guests were moving around the hotel - all the floorboards creeked and some of the doors tended to slam.

Breakfast was well worth paying for, it was all very fresh, and there was everything you could want; full cooked english, cereals, toast, croissants, pastrys, fresh fruit, youghurt, smoked salmon, fruit juices, tea, coffee, etc.

The staff were all very helpful, and they are more than willing to provide more free tea bags/coffee to drink in your room if you run out.

The hotel is situated down a kind of dip in the town, so virtually wherever you go it is uphill. It is, however, only 5 mins walk to the middle of the town, 3-5 mins walk to a choice of different restaurants / bars and about 10 mins to the station. It is in a very pretty area and was not too noisy at night. There is limited free parking.

I believe they are about to start some rennovations, so perhaps the rooms will be nicer in time.

Overall I would recommend it as a nice place to stay.

The following services are also listed as being available in the hotel:

24 Hour Front Desk, 24 Hour Room Service, Bar/Lounge, Business Center, Conference Facilities, Currency Exchange, Doctor on Call,
Elevators, FAX, Guest Laundry Facilities, Handicapped Rooms/Facilities, Iron, Laundry/Valet Services, Maid Service, Multilingual, Pets Allowed, Porters, Restaurant, Safe Deposit Box,
Secretarial Service, Wake-up Service.
