Torquay

Advantages: Beaches, attractions
Disadvantages: English weather

Torquay also known as 'The English Riviera' got its name from the ancient Saxon hamlet of Torre and the Quay it sits on. Well known for its mild climate, there are many palm trees growing all around the area. Torquay was made popular in Victorian times, I'm sure many people reading this review will have visited Torquay on holiday as a child. Torquay is made up of many regions, which have been added to over the years. The Willows, Watcombe, Saint Marychurch, Babbacombe, Wellswood, The Warberries, Ellacombe, Plainmoor, Tormohun (although this is known locally as just Torquay town centre), Torre, Livermead, Shiphay, Barton, Cockington, Chelston, Upton and Hele village. There are many beaches in Torquay, obviously some busier than others. While some are easy to get to, others are hidden away or quite steep to get to. 2 examples ...

The Crown of Fountain Street

Advantages: Reasonably priced food and drink in central Manchester
Disadvantages: Horrible toilets

I work just down the street from The Crown and have been a frequent visitor for over 12 years. Since my first visit it has transformed from a grotty side street pub that to its current guise of more up-market lounge bar. ++++++ Layout ++++++ On entering the front doors of the Crown you immediately see the long bar, covering the whole of the back wall, which is directly opposite the doors. To the right is a section of high bar tables, a couple of slot machines and access to the toilets, to the left are the comfy sofas, behind which is the main food seating area, which consists of booths and small tables. +++++++++++ Food & Drink +++++++++++ The food is pretty much traditional pub grub such as steak baguettes, burgers, chips etc but they also have a daily specials board which usually has slightly more adverturous fayre ...

Give Castle Lodge the Dodge

Advantages: A historical building
Disadvantages: disappointing and spoilt by the owners

CASTLE LODGE It was a family day out in Ludlow and whilst I was sitting resting on the bench, waiting for my hubby to return from checking the car and the parking fees, I noticed this really old Tudor style house opposite and on closer inspection discovered that it was open to the public. We didn?t go in straight away, but I did drop a big hint like, ?I want to go in there before we go home? to the family, so that they would not be surprised after the visit to the castle that we went in here. After we had a lovely lunch in the café situated next door to the lodge after a amazing trip around the castle. We were all in high spirits and enjoying our food and refreshments, I dropped the bombshell that I wanted to see the house, they did try to dissuade me as they were now getting slightly tired and wanted to do a little retail ...
