Crowne Plaza Birmingham - 4 Star
While making my way down to London to go on a trip to Europe we stopped off at the Crowne Plaza in Birmingham as we went to see Pink in concert.
We picked this hotel as it was within walking distance to the NIA where the concert was being held. It also was close to the New Street Train Station. This was important as we were getting off the train and had to walk to the hotel with our luggage.
The hotel cost us £64 for the four star hotel and this also included breakfast for one night. I thought this was good value. There was a nice atmosphere when we arrived in the hotel and it all seemed to be run very professionally.
They had revolving doors when you came in and a very large lobby. The best thing of all was that there was no long waiting times to check in or out.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. They gave us directions to the NIA and were very keen to help with any queries we had. They seemed to have lots of people on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have had.
Our room was very modern, spacious and clean. I felt like I was in a four star hotel which is unusual because sometimes I think four stars isn't always the way you would expect.
On the table in your room you got complimentary biscuits (they happened to be oat biscuits) and tea which you could make for yourself. I always like this as I usually be tired when I reach a hotel and want a drink and something to eat so its always great when they have the facilities for you to use.
I liked the lighting in the room as it made you feel relaxed. They had a large canvas above the bed and a large flat screen television in front of the bed so you could watch television comfortably from your bed.
The room included a safe if you wanted to put your valuables in. Also if you needed it they have an ironing board provided.
The wardrobe has a few drawers, a bench so you could put any clothes away if you wanted to. We were only staying a night so we didn't bother using the wardrobe at all.
In the room there was two large comfortable chairs. Even with these chairs in the room there still was lots of space.
The bed was huge and I have to say it is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept in. I had the best nights sleep ever. It was way more comfortable than my bed at home. The duvet was very soft, warm and cosy as well.
The bathroom was a great standard and very modern. It was very clean and you didn't think twice to use anything in it as it was sparkling.
Once you opened the curtains you had a great view of Birmingham. I liked the way you could control the heating in the room so it could be as warm or cold as you wanted it to be.
For breakfast we had a buffet which had a large choice of items to chose from. You could have had hot meals (bacon, sausage, egg, toast) or cereals, fruit or cold meats. I thought it tasted lovely and was worth getting. The cutlery was clean and everything was well present. It was a nice dining experience and tasted very yummy!
**OVERALL**
I really enjoyed staying in this hotel. I am not sure what there is to do in the area, as we didn't really have time to explore it. While we were walking to the NIA to see Pink's concert we noticed lots of nice looking cafes and restaurants.
If you are ever going to a concert here and want to have a little bit of luxury I would definitely recommend this place as it is very convenient and a nice hotel to stay in.
It doesn't work out very expensive and you definately are getting a very nice hotel for the money.
Advantages: Location Disadvantages: Bad state of repair
...I have stayed in Crowne Plaza hotels around the globe and this is nothing more than a 2-star hotel with a Crowne Plaza board on the roof. This hotel is badly in need of updating and a price review!! When you compare the cost to other nearby hotels, you get a lot more for your money (nice exec suite!) at hotels only a stone's throw away.
I have spoken to the Hotel Manager regarding my stay and he assures me the hotel is under going a re-furb at the ...

...are two hotels called the Crowne Plaza in Birmingham. As I found out at my peril... Ill explain later.
The first one is the Crown Plaza in the City Centre which is the one mentioned in the other review.
The one I stayed in is the one situated next to Birmingham NEC and is the one I have stayed in quite a few times.
I have to say I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel.
The most recent stay was when I booked us in before going to ... ...mistake. I wanted the one by the NEC because of the Free transfers to the airport. On arrival the staff were very helpful in sorting out cancelling the reservation at the other hotel and getting us a room at their hotel. We even had a free upgrade and I dont know why!
The staff are very pleasant and helpful providing good local knowledge on places to go.
The hotel itself is very clean and the facilities (sauna, gym) etc are fantastic. The food ...

...I into the city centre Crowne Plaza. On arrival and discovery of the mix up we steeled ourselves for a fight (mainly with the travel agent to try and get them to sort out the mess they had created - not for the first time!) However it was completely unneccesary. The hotel staff were fantastic and arranged a transfer with the other hotel and booked us into two beautiful suites. I stayed in the Hendrix suite which contained cd's of his music, complimentary ... ...We ate in the restaurant, which was priced much as you would expect for a hotel of this calibre. The food and service were again both to a very high standard.
One of the reasons for initially chosing this hotel (in addition to its location) was that excellent room rates were on offer via the hotel website which if memory serves was promoting a room offer of about £75 - excellent value for money, especially when lower class hotels in the city centre ...

Advantages: Very professional service, helpful staff, large room Disadvantages: Not the cheapest, although you get what you pay for
This review is of the hotel, CrownePlaza, at Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC). I stayed here for one night in February 2010, and was also able to eat the evening meal and breakfast in the hotel.
The room was quite expensive, but was booked at quite short notice, so it wasn't possible to take advantage of the offers which I've noticed can be taken at this hotel if you're prepared to book a bit further in advance.
CAR PARKING:
There is a lot of car parking in this hotel, including an overflow area, so you are unlikely to have problems parking. Parking is expensive, ten pounds for a day, but if you take a meal in the hotel, then they waive this car parking fee. The car parking ticket can be collected at reception when you're leaving, and the car park seemed secure and well looked after, and full of rather expensive cars ...

CrownePlazaBirmingham NEC
My wife and I have stayed here a couple of times, always in March and yes you?ve probably guessed, it?s when Crufts is on at the NEC.
Strange but a few years ago you had to book wayyy way in advance to get a room but with this recession where all going through, getting a room is easy. I suppose the stick that Crufts came under last year didn?t help either but anyhow getting back to the hotel.
You can easily book a room and they vary in price from £120 to £220 depending on things such as lake view, breakfast included or evening meal and breakfast. But as March approaches then the room prices tend to rocket.
The room is a standard large bedroom and a bathroom.
What more to add to the room? It comes with TV, Kettle, Ironing equip, small table and 2 comfy chairs. We ...
