After a recent visit on business to Liverpool, I was firtunate enough to stay in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, situated near the Albert Dock, right on the edge of the River Mersey. Little did I know that this was to be one of the best hotels that I have ever stayed in, and I do a LOT of travelling!!!
As soon as you drive into the car park, it hits you. Not the biggest hotel in the county, it has to be said, but then again - size isn't everything...
The door was opened for me and I entered the reception area. You are guarenteed to be welcomed with a warm smile and the people there were falling over backwards to help me.
The physical appearance is just stunning. The hotel is relatively new (about 3 years, I think...) but it was still something. Everything in my room, furniture I mean, was SOLID OAK. Not some cheap Oak Veneer or woodstain, we're talking SOLID, with BRASS FITINGS. I had a view across to Birkenhead and the room was just so tidy and clean. You get 2 phones, writing desk, coffee table, triple wardrobe with shelves, cupboards, personal Bar (!!!) and all the gizmos for laptops and modems all over the place!
As for the food - not the biggest portions, but the quality more than conpensated. I had a Lamb Risotto the first night, and it was cooked to perfection. And the best bit about it - I had a 3-course meal, with coffee, and I was totally finished in 20 minutes. The service was excellent.
The second night, I had food brought to my room. I asked that it arrived at 8:30pm. Sure enough, at 8:32pm there was a knock at the door... and full of apologies for being only 2 minutes late!
The baths are fast-filling, so they don't get cold before they are full, and the floor is all tiled and clean.
I also visited the on-site gym and swimming pool. There is a standard pool, jacuzi, spa, whirlpool and sauna!!!! The gym is well equipped and supervised with qualified trainers who are always on hand to show you how to use the machines.
All in all, an outstanding hotel and well worth recommending for anyone.
If you know of someone who has had a bad visit there, I'd love to hear about it... but I doubt it.
