.... Breakfast was quickly eaten and then we were ready for our walk through the Nature Reserve. Our guide for the morning, Jahed, was enthusiastic about what lay ahead. The scenery was stunning, but we were less enthusiastic about identifying hyena prints amongst those left by the Nike and Reebok. The walk lasted all of the morning until we reached the campsite where lunch was to be taken. After lunch we all climbed into a pickup truck to be taken back to our bus for the onward journey to Wadi Musa, our overnight resting place. The scenery on the way was desolate and the roads were bumpy, so we were pleased to arrive in the town that was to be our base for exploring Petra. Advantages: a unique experience

...imagination, or a good guide book, aid you the vibrant ancient streets return to their former glories. From the official entrance to the site, a dusty trail leads gently downwards along the Wadi Musa (The Valley of Moses). Situated in small rock outcrops to the left and right of the path are some small Nabataean tombs, carved into the dry rock. Beyond these, walls of sandstone rise steeply on the left, and a narrow cleft reveals the entrance to the Siq, the principal route into Petra itself. Siq, means cleft or channel and the entrance to the site is very narrow in some places, making this name very appropriate for this ancient geological fault line. The Nabataeans were expert hydraulic engineers. The walls of the Siq are lined with channels (originally fitted with chamfered clay pipes of efficient design) to carry drinking water to the city... Advantages: Fantastic Castle, Beautiful Views

...There is really only one reason to visit Kerak and that is to visit the cruasader castle that winds around the top of the hill and encircles the marjority of Kerak. The crusader castle has one main area to visit which can be accessed near the government rest house (which is ok for lunch), entry is 1JD per person. However, the castle does crop up all around Kerak with some of the buildings using one of the walls as an exterior. The castle is quite run down although efforts have been made in recent years to restore it. Having said that, it is still possible to make sense of the castle - stables, dining halls, sleeping areas, armament areas etc. Kids will love the castle as there are walls and rocks to climb up and scramble over.
