Hotel Palma Real, varadero, Cuba
Review of Hotel Palma Real by
ikkin1981
Advantages: All round good pick for those wanting Caribbean on a budget. Great beach!
Disadvantages: Probably not quite up to 5* standards like some other hotels, but we didn't mind!
I stayed at Hotel Palma Real, Varadero, Cuba in September 2005 with a friend. We both had a fantastic holiday. I would rate this as a 3/4 star hotel, as it is typically at the lower end of the pricing for holidays to Varadero. However, don't let this put you off this merely makes it even more value for money!
Location#
The hotel is situated approximately 150 metres from the beach. Literally cross the road and you are there. Facilities on the beach ... ...we had been staying at hotel that was on the beach itself. Hotel Facilities#
The hotel has a large lobby which accomodates the reception, lobby bar and seating area, small shop, hairdressers. Nightly entertainment happens here.
There are two swimming pools. One has a pool bar and is usually used for pool sports such as water polo and volley ball. There is also a small gym located behind this pool. The second pool is larger and has a shallow childrens ...

5* all the way
Review of Paradisus Rio de Oro, Holguin by
bouncybabe
Advantages: fantastic room, pool, beach and especially the food
Disadvantages: it rained almost every day we were there
ROOM
We had a standard Junior Suite, which was more than adequate for our needs including 2 x queen beds, chaise longue, sky TV, balcony, dressing area and bathroom with powerful shower. All Junior Suites appeared to be very similar, with 16 to each block, positioned in the middle of the resort.
FOOD
There is the buffet restaurant, 4 a la cartes, beach bar and poolside bar. They all did wonderful food but our favourite was the Japanese, closely ... ...a must-have!)
POOL
The pool is split into two sections, separated by a waterfall. The water is plesant and not full of chlorine like many pools! The deepest part is about 1.6m, and the shallowest about 60cm, but there is no problem swimming and it was rarely busy.
POOLSIDE There are plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas, gazeebos and hammocks. There are two jaccuzis, which are quite cold, but we sat in them and were served champagne like a king and queen!

Move over Frank and Eva for Atticusuk
Review of Hotel Nacional de Cuba, Havana by
atticusuk
Advantages: Nice sense of history
Disadvantages: Very crowded as it is a tourist attraction
...forward to staying at the Hotel Nacional De Cuba, after all if it was good enough for Sinatra then it must be good enough for my own version of the rat pack although for some reason the family were not keen on the rodent description.
One of the reasons behind choosing the Nacional was the long rather impressive lists of celebrities that had stayed there particularly in its hey day before the revolution and the rule of Fidel Castro but even more ... ...given the size of the hotel and the fact that someone I later to spoke to had booked well after we had and was not restricted to a booking on the sixth floor I find it hard to believe that only one room was free at the time I booked.
According to the hotels website the room rates currently range from 120 CUC for a single room to 1000 CUC for the Presidential suite. Our room on the 6th floor is priced at 245 CUC which includes breakfast and converts ...

Jon & Denise
Review of Sol Rio de Luna y Mares, Holguin by
cubantourist
Advantages: Location, comfy beds and loungers, friendly staff (mostly),tours on offer
Disadvantages: Vegetarian Nightmare, Menu selections boastful(drinks too)not Cuban enough ?
A generally friendly and efficient hotel.
We travelled with Captivating Cuba. Overall despite hitting the end of a tropical storm we had a great time. Eco Tours did some great tours and we'd especially recommend 'Inside the Countryside' - an opportunity to see life for real in the rural countryside. Ask what tours are available-there are more than advertised generally.
A word of warning to Vegetarians-this hotel really needs to get it's act together. ... ...beans cooked with bacon thus making the sometimes limited food selection for vegetarians even more tricky-if you are big on meat you will love it.
Bars knock up a good cocktail, but expect no to Mojitas as they had no mint !
Don't be put off though-comfy beds and sunloungers, and generally a willingness to help ...

Hotel Parque Central
Review of NH Parque Central, Havana by
LightyN1
Advantages: Classy, clean, corporate, good quality, rooftop pool
Disadvantages: Corporate, magnet for begging
This hotel was billed as one of the best in Havana, so I booked it for the last three nights of my holiday to make sure I ended on a high note.
It was the most 'western' of all of the hotels in which I stayed. It has all the hallmarks of a good quality European hotel, with the obligatory display of marble in the lobby and really good quality, clean rooms that are very well maintained.
It is clearly a sign of quality that there seemed to be quite ... ...that we visited.
The rooftop pool is a real plus, because the hotel is right in the middle of Havana, close to the Capitol building. While it's not right in the heart of the old town, it's close enough for a short walk and there are plenty of taxis right outside to take you anywhere you want to go.
There are two drawbacks with the Parque Central. Firstly it is a tiny bit soulless. Secondly it attracts beggars and scammers, because it's the most ...
