Las Brisas, Guardalavaca, Holguin
Review of Brisas Guardalavaca, Holguin by pingstar

Advantages: Breathtaking scenery, friendly people, inexpensive, historic value, rememorable excursions
Disadvantages: little nightlife, basic food,

The complex consists of both a Hotel and Villa appartments to choose from. The Villa's aren't available off season. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment in the hotel overlooking the main pool area. The room itself was adequate, with it's own shower room. Basic ammenities in the room included a mini bar, fridge and television which received some American channels. Fresh bedding and towels were delivered by maid service. Towels were arranged artisticly ...
...like swans. There are two main buffet restaurants. Although there isn't a wide variety of food, it is fresh and often cooked in front of you. They also have themed nights, where the staff dress up and serve the food. You often see dinner being prepared throughout the day, I remember lying at the pool watching a man roasting a pig on a spit! There are also ala carte restaurants which you receive vouchers for, only one voucher per restaurant, per week ... Read review

East of Eden?
Review of Islazul Las Terrazas Aparthotel, Havana by fizzytom

Advantages: Good basic value, good pool
Disadvantages: Lots of steps, stray animals, poor local amenities

...scale and, you've guessed it, Islazul is at the bottom. In fact, the guide books say that Islazul runs the hotels that Cubans stay in and this is true but don't let poor reports in the guidebooks put you off. Islazul does have some properties that you really wouldn't want to stay in if you had a choice. We saw one such place when we arrived in Guanabo, one of the three resorts which makes up Playa del Estes (literally "beaches of the East" of Havana). ...
..."chalets" (more like a brick outhouse) around a central area with an over-crowded pool and blaring music. Rubbish was piled up by the gates and the smell was not very nice. Instead we made our way along to Playa Santa Maria a more upmarket stretch, closer to Havana where we decided to see if Las Terrazas had any rooms available. It couldn't have been more different. Las Terrazas is about 100 metres from the beach and has fences all around it. You ... Read review

Carribean Paridise?
Review of Villa Cojimar, Ciego de Avila by tonyblackfrst

Advantages: Low level, friendly, amazing pool, on the beach
Disadvantages: none

...to a low standard. The villa i stayed in was 4 steps, no word of a lie from the beach which was gorgeous white sand, there was also a jetty into the sea at te end of which was an open air massage hut where you could get a massage with the waves lapping around the jetty legs. Plenty of wildlife was on site, including many lizards and ponds upon ponds of tropical fish. The attitude is laid back and friendly and i made several friends while out there. ...
...at Villa cojimar even the maids take enough rpide in their work to fold the towles into shapes of swans/flowers or fish, just for your pleaure. Oh and my advice if you ever go. get up in the morning for sunrise, the gorgeous reddy purples and silhouetted palm trees is a sight to behold, it gets even better when it fades to the carribean blue sky and the hot sun streams down on you early in the morning. If you get a chance go there. I know i'll ... Read review

It's show time!
Review of Hotel Playa Coco, Ciego de Avila by patel88

Advantages: Friendly staff, entertainment, great place to relax and have fun
Disadvantages: not everything was open, lack of choice of food

...and the Oasis Playa Coco hotel is suppose to be the best tourist hotel on the island. Some people might agree with this whereas others might disagree. There were a number of people who had upgraded to this hotel whilst I was there, and a couple of people who had moved out to another hotel… I will give you my experience of my one week stay here and you can draw your own conclusions. The Resort The resort has a lot to offer and it is located ...
...was a shame though that some of what the resort had to offer was not open or up to the standards you would expect it to be. The resort has everything you need if you just want to go there to relax and unwind; it has a swimming pool (with a swim-up bar), fitness suite (with air conditioning), tennis courts, massage parlour (which was not open at the time), small shop and lots more. There is a scooter hire place just at the front of the resort, so ... Read review

Cuba is the place to go!
Review of Iberostar Tainos, Matanzas by lightningwinger

Advantages: Great staff
Disadvantages: 9 hour flight is quite long

...a great holiday resort and Iberostar Tainos, voted the 3rd best hotel in Cuba, is the best in the resort and is great value for the Caribbean costing £6000 for a group of six of us for two weeks. In other places you'll pay that for 2 people. Give it a go and you won't be disappointed. ... Read review
