Best Hotel in Cuba!
Review of Hotel Nacional de Cuba, Havana by sophietucker77

Advantages: Location, Luxury
Disadvantages: None

...thought this was the best hotel I've ever stayed in Cuba. We stayed here in June 2007 and had the best holiday ever. Havana is steeped in history and the local people couldn't be more friendly. The hotel is one of the best on the island and I would highly recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. it has a central location and has very high standards in terms of cleanliness and helpfulness of staff. We were offered a free room upgrade when we told ... Read review

Occidental Grand Turquesa....needs a bit of TLC
Review of Occidental Grand Playa Turquesa, Holguin by Bianca1984

Advantages: swimming pools, staff, gardens, air conditioning (in rooms)
Disadvantages: a few bin bags, tarantulas!, long walks

This hotel has a little more than meets the eye, but it is still deeply disappointing as a first impression. We paid a very low price, so should have had lower expectations but as the coach pulled up my face dropped. After the brochures and photos I had previously seen I was met with a complex in the middle of nowhere with nothing shouting 'stay here' about it. But once I had passed the bin bags and random matresses I was met with a few key features ...
...swimming pools, the beautiful gardens, the perfectly air-conditioned rooms and the very friendly staff. There were many things wrong with this hotel but these things were great. So if you are willing to overlook a few things they haven't quite got right, then the main things should make you want to stay the week (or two!) and not run for the hills. ... Read review

Move over Frank and Eva for Atticusuk
Review of Hotel Nacional de Cuba, Havana by atticusuk

Advantages: Nice sense of history
Disadvantages: Very crowded as it is a tourist attraction

...forward to staying at the Hotel Nacional De Cuba, after all if it was good enough for Sinatra then it must be good enough for my own version of the rat pack although for some reason the family were not keen on the rodent description. One of the reasons behind choosing the Nacional was the long rather impressive lists of celebrities that had stayed there particularly in its hey day before the revolution and the rule of Fidel Castro but even more ...
...given the size of the hotel and the fact that someone I later to spoke to had booked well after we had and was not restricted to a booking on the sixth floor I find it hard to believe that only one room was free at the time I booked. According to the hotels website the room rates currently range from 120 CUC for a single room to 1000 CUC for the Presidential suite. Our room on the 6th floor is priced at 245 CUC which includes breakfast and converts ... Read review

Not Without its Faults But Worth A Look
Review of Sol Palmeras, Varadero by johnny040676

Advantages: Very Friendly Staff, Big Pool, Nice Beach, Good Drinks
Disadvantages: A Little Tired in Need Of A Refurb, Food not Brilliant

Sol Palmeras, Varadero, Cuba we stayed here christmas 2006 and new year 2007 for two weeks and there were a few little niggles but this didn't stop it being one of our best holidays ever, granted we met some of the nicest people ever, who we still stay in touch with but the staff at the hotel and the hotel itself helped make it so good also. Arriving In Cuba ****************** On arrival we were met by a host of security guards in the tunnel at ...
...then transferred to the Hotel Sol Palmeras by coach. Sol Palmeras Check In And Rooms *************************************** We arrived at the hotel in the evening of the 23rd December and it was all lit up with christmas trees and decorations, the hotel reception was very nice and done in marble tiles with a big flower bed in the middle and christmas trees all over. We were checked in quite quickly and shown to our room. The room was not really ... Read review

Carpenters needed, good rates
Review of Tryp Peninsula Varadero by atticusuk

Advantages: Lovely grounds, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Food became a bit repetitive.

...two separate locations and the Tryp Peninsula was the second location after a few days in the hustle and bustle of Havana. The plan was to do the heavy tourist stuff in Havana and then have a relaxing week on an all inclusive resort. Certainly if you want to experience Cuba and also relax then I would recommend this kind of approach, once you get onto a resort you are pretty shut off from the local population other than hotel workers, in fact staying ...
...and according to the brochure Tryp Peninsula is one of their favourite resorts for families and under their rating system has a four tick rating however the local sign at the resort has it rated as a five star resort. Based on my experience I would challenge the resorts own opinion of itself and feel that Virgin have got it about right , it is an all inclusive resort located on the Veredaro Peninsula and is in the Punta de Hicacos Natural Park however ...
