Going down, down...deeper and down

Advantages: Interesting and informative tour of volcanic lava tunnels and caverns. Unspoilt attraction developed to be in harmony with environment. Stunning optical illusion.
Disadvantages: Hard to get to without transportation. Not suitable for very young, elderly or infirm. No catering outlet or much in the way of onsite facilities.

...favour of another visit to Cueva de los Verdes, in the North of the island. Cueva de los Verdes is a complex of galleries and caves at varying levels, which form part of one of the longest lava tunnels in the world, the Tunél de Atlántida. I'm a bit of an enthusiast for visiting caves, and if there are some underground caverns, catacombs or strange rock formations somewhere near my holiday destination, you can bet I've been there. There is something ...
.../> ~~ History ~~
Cueva de los Verdes (literally translated as "Green's Cave") have been around since the year dot. They were formed around 3000 - 4500 years ago from an eruption of the nearby Volcán de la Corona (Corona volcano). Shhh...it's a secret!

Advantages: beautiful caves, historical.
Disadvantages: not suitable for disabled/push chairs/ people with bad backs!

...caves are known locally as Cueva de los Verdes. The original inhabitants of the island were known as the Guanches and they would shelter in the caves from the pirates and slave hunters that threatened the island. The tunnels are about 8km long but 2km of this is under the water. It is the longest volcanic tunnel in the world. The caves are named after the 'Green' family not because they are green in colour (as many people would seem to believe). ...
...from the pirates was the 'Verdes' family. The caves do appear green however this is due to the lighting - well you can have dark caves I am sure the compensation lawyers would have a great time. The caves were transformed by adding professional lighting by Jesus Soto and were opened to the public in 1964. The only way to navigate these caves today is with a tour led by a professional guide. *~*~*THE TOUR*~*~* Only a 2km section of the caves is ...

Heaven is a place on earth!

Advantages: A beautiful island with so much to see and do!
Disadvantages: After 7 years nothing...yet!

. TIP: Ensure that you are as near to the front throughout so that you can see the secret properly. Also sometimes the Spanish tend to talk after their commentary so the nearer to the guide that you are the more likely you are to hear the commentary. Most excursions are like this and by the end we learned that by talking during the Spanish commentary they learned how annoying it was. It?s a shame but many tourists have complained about this part of the tour. Opening Hours: 10am - 6pm (final Admission 5pm) 7/10 JAMEOS DEL AGUA ?North? This cave system is part of the Cueva de los Verdes mentioned above. The word 'Jameo' refers to a volcanic cave with a collapsed roof, of which there are many in this part of Lanzarote. You will find out more about Cesar Manrique below however this Lanzarote born artist helped to create these caves by ...
