Advantages: Cultural - steeped in history & heritage Disadvantages: Lack of investment
...LIVERPOOL - European Capital of Culture 2008
This is the first in what will be a series of city reviews, when I get around writing the others that is !!
I could quite easily go on about my home city all day long..... A city, which for reasons beyond it's own control, has received a very bad press for far too long.
I have lived and worked away from the city now for over 10 years, and can say with absolute certainty that there are many worse places to be ... I know, I live in one of them !
A city that likes to double up .... 2 Premiership football teams, 2 tunnels, 2 Cathedrals, 2 Universities
Liverpool .... I love the place, I love the people (well, most of them anyway), I love the fresh sea air, the humour, the art, the football, the heritage, the history, the music, the culture ... It's got it all, but unfortunately...

Advantages: Provide a source of income for students in developing countries Disadvantages: I question the authenticity
...The Polynesian Cultural Centre is situated on the northern side of the island of Oahu. From Waikiki, its about an hour and a half drive. Due to its popularity, tickets for some of the packages are quickly sold out.
We booked through the hotel tour agency. The advantage being hard to find tickets might be found, and they would arrange for transportation to and fro the centre at additional cost. Being unfamiliar with the roads, we were happy to let others do the driving.
History of the Polynesian Cultural Centre
The centre was opened by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- in other words The Mormons. The purpose being twofold:
1. To preserve the culture of Polynesia.
2. Help provide employment for students attending University in Hawaii. Not just any University...

Advantages: You got to see some Aboriginal culture Disadvantages: Wasn't as good as expected
...Tjapukai - Aboriginal Cultural Park By Night
In Cairns we decided we wanted to see some Aboriginal culture so were advised to go to Tjapukai by Night. Promised to see culture in the most powerful and personal way we bought our tickets. From what we understood a dinner and show would be what we could expect. Our tickets cost $123, which included share accommodation in the YHA. Share accommodation generally costs around $20 so say it cost me $100 for the show and dinner including my transfers. We purchased out tickets in the YHA in advance.
One Australian dollar is equal to 0.47 United Kingdom pounds.
Without transport included it costs for an adult $87, child $43.50, family (2 adults and 2 children) $217.50. With transfers from Cairns and Northern Beaches it costs $104, child $52, family $268.50. Transfers from Port Douglas...

Orson's first single, released prior to the debut album, was pretty good but the album was a little disappointing.

WHO’S THIS THEN?
It’s a band called Culture Club who were lead by the flamboyant, colourful and determinedly single-minded Boy George (born George O’Dowd in my hometown of Welling). The band had what pundits might call “a string of hits” from 1982 to... more
