the nickname "Manchester of the North", or as we say Manse for short.
Tampere is about 170 km from Helsinki to north. Temperatures are max +28 and min -20 C.
Tampere is more than close to nature. City centre is surrounded by lake and ridge scenery, sited on an isthmus between lakes Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi. The Tammerkoski rapids run through the city. There are 200 lakes and ponds in Tampere, and a total of 450 in the entire region. There are numerous nature reserves in Tampere. Pyynikki and Viikinsaari near the city centre are the best known of them. Pyynikki, which was formed by the action of ice and sea more than 10,000 years ago, is the world's highest gravel ridge. At its highest it rises 80 metres above Lake Pyhäjärvi and 160 metres above sea level.
Hotel Cumulus Koskipuisto:
I have spend many night in this hotel, and I can recommend ...
Advantages: Live music, central location, good service, good atmosphere Disadvantages: no food served
? where there are also a fair few bars to sample. There is also another Molly?s in Lahti ? I didn?t get to this one though!
Opening hours:
The bar opens at 11am from Monday to Saturday and from Midday on Sundays ? closing time from a somewhat hazy memory was around 2-3am ? surely a good sign, that I couldn?t remember!
Food:
Unfortunately, the Irish stew I had hoped to consume was not going to appear - there is no food in the Helsinki Molly Malone's - apparently the one in Lahti does do food - I was told that I could get there for closing time if I got a move-on ? not that I did.
Bar:
Having established that the place didn?t do food, there was only one option ? to test the various drinks that were on tap! As with all Irish bars, Guinness is on tap - a pint of Guinness will set you back EUR 5.90 (GBP 4.00) - this seemed to be ...

Advantages: Small heart in big city Disadvantages: (road to Turku !)
with Pendolino and one way ticket cost about 30 ?.
By Car:
Once again, because Tampere locates in middle of Finland there are excellent roads and very easy connections. The drive from Helsinki takes about 2 h and there is a 2+2 lane motorway throughout the journey, just remember that speed limit 120 km/h with small portions 100 km/h in the summer, or 100 km/h throughout in the winter. There are also road connections from Tampere to Turku, Pori, Rauma, Seinäjoki/Vaasa, Jyväskylä and Lahti but these are mostly 1+1 lane regular roads with speed limits between 80 km/h and 100 km/h. Take extra care during late night and winter cause harsh winter conditions may make driving difficult occasionally in the winter, and there is a risk of collision with deer or elk, particularly just after dusk in the summer.
By local buses or taxis:

Cumulus Lahti Hotel situated in the very centre of Lahti and is actually part of a large shopping centre. The rooms are very modern and medium in size with wooden floors and light wood furniture. They are in very good condition, as are the bathrooms. The brightly decorated restaurant adjoins the lobby. A modern hotel, part of a shopping centre complex. The lobby is small and modern. This is a straightforward comfortable modern hotel.
