...by very professional and friendly Cunard representatives. All went very well and I must say it was one of the smoothest check-ins I have ever known, a very pleasant airport experience. It was a great thought to know that we would not have to collect our baggage at the other end and that it would be delivered to the Miami hotel we were staying in prior to boarding.
The three of us checked in and awaited the luggage; you all know the feeling when ... ...to have the next morning. Cunard have been in the business for a very long time but their experience and organisation skills certainly were absent on this day. Our luggage had been collected and taken to the ship, so at least we did not have to worry about that. We all met in the reception area of the hotel at 9 am to await the transport to the ship as advised, we were sailing at 5.45pm.
The weather was lovely and at 30 odd degrees was much nicer ...

Advantages: A wonderful experience, and you can get it cut price. Disadvantages: So minor as to be trivial.
...to Southampton, and found the Cunard reception building. It was like checking in at an airport, only very much quicker, with many more open desks, and with much politer people. A kind of aircraft ‘tunnel’ led onto the ship, where I was welcomed by a charming steward who took me to my cabin. At this point, I hadn’t even seen the ship. My luggage, I was told, would be there as soon as possible. I’ve heard that before ! In fact, it arrived in no time. ... ...off to explore.
This is a big vessel. Well, you know that, but believe me until you’ve been on it you don’t know how big. I walked miles on that ship. There was so much to see and do that I hardly know where to begin. For a cruise ship, she’s elderly, but all the fittings and furnishings are in restrained good taste, and everything is spotlessly clean. The only exception to the good taste is the outdoor pool, which is drab and somehow dismal; but ...

Advantages: Luxurious, Stable and beautiful, feeling like a movie star! Disadvantages: That I haven't sailed on her for a year!
...a very intimate dining venue. Cunard could do with employing a few more sommeliers as demand is always high for their attention. The food was excellent and if you just wanted to try something on the menu, then it was no trouble to replace it if you didn't like it. You were positively encouraged to try everything! For those on a lighter diet there is a canyon ranch menu, set by the spa. We didn't try this.
We never tried the Todd English, but those ... ...Chefs galley carry a surcharge of $30 per person.
Drinks: There are several bars on board (some mentioned here). Suprisingly, the drinks are cheaper or the same price as you would pay at home, about £2.20 for a pint of lager or £2.50 for a large glass of wine. All purchases are put against your cabin using your door keycard. The only down side is the obligatory 15% gratuity on everything you buy.
Eveing entertainment: We enjoyed the casino immensely ...

...I travelled on the Cunard Princess which is by no means the top of the range ship within the Cunard fleet.Having said that I found that the rooms, general decor and facilities were all of a very high standard.
There are numerous cruises available to choose from, suitable for most budgets.
One of the plus points about cruising is that once you have checked in your luggage at the airport, the next time you see it is when you are shown to your cabin. No ... ...room from reception.
I know that many cruises actually embark from Southampton and go right across the Atlantic, again I cannot comment on those type as I've never actually been on one. One of the things to consider about leaving from the UK is that you will have several days at sea without a break and the Atlantic crossing is likely to be more turbulent than cruising the Caribbean or the Med.
I flew directly to San Juan the capital of Pueto Rica.Having ...

Advantages: Big name Disadvantages: Big dissapointment
Well, Today I went aboard one of the most famous cruise liners afloat anywhere in the world. Maybe I was expecting too much after watching previous grand old ladies of the sea such as Titanic, etc but it was a huge disappointment.
I was not aboard as a passenger. I was aboard as a visitor. I got to see the whole of the ship though. This included the best cabins on the boat which ar the 2 Penthouses, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth suetes. The dining ... ...more like being aboard a channel ferry rather than a 5 star liner. The crew were all friendly and it was thanks to one of them, my friend, that I got to go aboard. The dock where it is moored looks more like a disused industrial area and not full of the splendor I Imagined. It had a funny smell about it too. I was able to see all of the bars, grills and dining areas minus the passengers so you get a feel for the decor. Very poor seen as it has not ...

Advantages: Excellent value at the price. Disadvantages: Few trimmings
..., and one which did not change during the cruise, was that they were well-meaning but overworked and overfamiliar.
I am by no means a fussy traveller, and was determined to make the best of what was beginning to look like a bad job, but once I was on board things began to improve. I’d been given a cabin upgrade at no extra cost, so instead of the rather poky single quarters which you sometimes get even on the Cunard line I had a double, outside cabin, which was a wonderful surprise. A shower and a change from my now crumpled clothes made me feel much better, and I set off to explore the ship.
The main message of this opinion is that the cruise was very good value indeed, and there’s no better way to illustrate this than by comparing some of the facilities with those on the magnificent QE2, to give you an idea of what both the top and middle...

Advantages: Pure luxury, see loads of different countries in one holiday Disadvantages: Loads of stairs to climb.
...Picture this.
There he was, sitting at the computer, choosing a special holiday to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. "A cruise" he said "But I don't like boats," she said, "You won't know you are on a ship" he said, "Oh well, if you insist" she said reluctantly. Funnily enough I had really thought that we were going to fly to America and cruise around in an open topped car. Oh well.
So what did he want out of a holiday cruise?
Firstly not to have to fly anywhere.
So that meant Southampton.
Secondly to go on a plush ship.
So that meant the Cunard line.
Thirdly to cruise the Med.
Easy that one, lots of ships do that.
Fourthly, to go in September.
Well, he looked, he pondered and suddenly he said "Hey there is a great offer on the QE2". "Oh no, she said, that sounds terribly snobby, how can I tell anyone...
