Cusworth Hall, South Yorkshire

Advantages: Free to visit, good display of exhibits
Disadvantages: Car park charges, no original items in the house

Cusworth Hall is an example of a fine English country mansion house, located a couple of miles to the north of Doncaster town centre in South Yorkshire. If you drive out of Doncaster town centre over the Great North Road Bridge and find yourself stuck in traffic (the road works around here have been ongoing for decades) then have a glance to your left and you will have a wonderful view of Cusworth Hall in the distance. As you drop over the bridge ...
...upon it.

Cusworth Hall sits on the top of a small grassy hill. A large green, landscaped park with scattered woods surrounds it and when it was built in the 18th century the views from here would have been wonderful. Today, the views are mainly of Doncaster, but don't let that put you off, it is still a fantastic view nonetheless. There are also a series of lovely lakes and fishing ponds within the grounds, but these are a more recent ... more

Cusworth Hall, Doncaster.... a trip down Memory Lane

Advantages: Good day out
Disadvantages: None

...unaware of until my visit), Cusworth Hall has undergone a major refurbishment and it looks magnificent. It actually re-opened to the public again back in 2007. In addition to all the refurb work done on the Hall there is now a tea room 'Cusworth's Tea Room', which serves yummy home-baked cakes and pastries (at reasonable prices) together with a selection of snacks. The tea room is open daily from 10 am to 4pm. For those who are not really interested ...
...==Little Bit of Background== Cusworth Hall is an 18th century country house set in beautiful landscaped parklands, once home to the Battie-Wrightson family (my late grandma owned a tea service which once belonged to the Battie-Wrightson's - it's still in the family). Cusworth Hall is home to some lovely history collections, illustrating how people lived, worked and entertained themselves over the last two hundred years. It really is a lovely and ...

Step back in time!

Advantages: great facilities. Wedding receptions available, cafe, wheelchair access! Free entry to house
Disadvantages: Pay for parking

Cusworth hall is a beautiful day out. As i live in doncaster i am lucky enough to be able to visit it frequently. It is a grand statley home with a victorian museum inside. Complete with beautiful grounds and lakes. Throughout the grounds you may be lucky enough to view certain wildlife like; mallards, kingfishers, toads, bats, fish and many more. It is situated on a hill, and in the winter when it snows- its fantastic for winter sports such as ...
...Items such as fashion through the decades, toys, medical, nursery, kitchen are to name a few. It is a great educational trip for young students!!! There is a car park, which is a small fee and more importantly it has wheelchair access. There is also a small cafe, which offers cream cakes and tea. Facilities such as toilets, and dog bowels are also available. In July 2007 my brother hosted his wedding reception on the driveway of this estate in ...

Cannon Hall, South Yorkshire

Advantages: Free, lots of history
Disadvantages: None for me

to enter the farm is £3.75 for adults and £3.25 for children. We did not visit the farm but we did make use of the toilets, which are free to use and fully equipped for disabled visitors. We also had a look around the garden centre, which is also free to visit. Also located here are tea rooms and a restaurant. The house looks very grand even from afar. It is constructed of light sandstone and has a very solid, square appearance which reminded me of many of the other large country manor houses in this area including Cusworth Hall near Doncaster and the nearby Brodsworth Hall. Cannon Hall is built on three different levels. The ground floor and the second floor includes all of the original rooms of the house, fully furnished with much of the original furniture of the Spencer-Stanhope family. The upper floor features a military museum ...
