I first visted this wonderful Hall many years ago (as a school girl) and it fascinated me then as it does today.
Back then everything seemed much larger and we were given the chance to dress up in period costume, which was fun ( I remember I ended up with the maid outfit and the school 'show off' ended up dressing like the Lady of the manor - not that I'm bitter!).
Anyway on a recent vist I discovered that a lot has changed since I was last there.
Following a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (which I was unaware of until my visit), Cusworth Hall has undergone a major refurbishment and it looks magnificent. It actually re-opened to the public again back in 2007.
In addition to all the refurb work done on the Hall there is now a tea room 'Cusworth's Tea Room', which serves yummy home-baked cakes and pastries (at reasonable prices) together with a selection of snacks.
The tea room is open daily from 10 am to 4pm.
For those who are not really interested in historical buildings/museums a visit to Cusworth Hall is still recommendable as there are lots of lovely walks around the grounds (which over look a beautiful lake) and a new picnic area.
There is ample parking, but please note this is pay and display.
Opening Hours
Open all year round Monday to Friday 10.30 am - 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 1pm - 5pm.
Admission
Admission into the Hall and Park and all the activities are free
Little Bit of Background
Cusworth Hall is an 18th century country house set in beautiful landscaped parklands, once home to the Battie-Wrightson family (my late grandma owned a tea service which once belonged to the Battie-Wrightson's - it's still in the family).
Cusworth Hall is home to some lovely history collections, illustrating how people lived, worked and entertained themselves over the last two hundred years.
It really is a lovely and educational place to visit.

My Opinion
It was great revisiting Cusworth Hall after so many years, we had a fun day. I often pass it enroute back home and had often thought about 'popping in' I'm glad I did.Interesting collections to see and the chapel is now open to the public showing some wonderful restored ceiling paintings which had previously been hidden under layers of paint. The chapel wasn't open when I visited as a school girl so I found this to be pf particular interest.
On the whole a great day our for all to enjoy and great vakue for money....admission is free!!
If you are ever in the South Yorkshire area, it's well worth a visit ( a beautiful part of the world - but then I have reason to be biased).
