Cyprus Airways

Well where shall I start because that is a very bold Title. Well I shall start at the beginning, are you sitting comfortably. My Girlfriend is a travel rep for a large UK based tour Operator; I won’t say which one because I think there not very good. However a few months ago I decided to go to see her in Cyprus. I didn’t want to travel with this particular operator who have there own Airline so I decided I would book a Scheduled flight with Cyprus Airways.

I arrived at Heathrow at 6.30am for my 9.00am flight; I paid a little extra so I could have a day flight. I was travelling alone so I checked in, with very friendly staff and went for breakfast.

The time came when my gate was being shown so I started my journey to the Aircraft, when I arrived at the gate it was very busy. It soon arrived at 9am and it was obvious that we weren’t going anywhere for the time being and within minutes a very well spoken Cypriot Air stewardess advised us that there would be an Hour delay, this didn’t please me but there is nothing that you can do.

After the hour there was another announcement, which nearly caused a riot and that, was that the plane had a Major fault with a fuel line. The plane would be delayed for at least another 3 hours. I was a little annoyed but quite relieved, as I wouldn’t want to fly in an unsafe plane. There were a lot of people shouting and screaming but once again the Crew dealt with it very professionally.

We were all handed £6 to get some food and drink with, I decided that it was time for a drink. I spent the next 3 hours very bored.

It was time to return to the gate where we were informed that the Plane couldn’t be fixed and we would have to wait for another plane which wouldn’t arrive until 11pm that evening. However in the meantime they would take us to a hotel where we would each have a room to Shower, Change and eat in the Restaurant. So we were taken to the Sheraton Skyline at Heathrow.

Finally we were back at the Airport after a very long and tiring day, there was a plane there for us and although we had to re check in we were made priority. Finally the plane took off just after 12 midnight and the crew was very attentive. The plane was very clean and modern, with the normal leg room that you receive in economy class, the food was reasonable (Chicken and Rice) and staff very polite, I needed a blanlet and they had plenty to go around. I have flown British Airways and prefer the whole experience however Cyprus Airways and the plane i flew on had excellent facilities, Toilets were quite big comapred to others, The TVs dropped from the Ceiling which again just ads to the overall experience, there was a choice of Radio stations in Various languages. I arrived at Larnaca at 6am the following morning, which was when I realised that my girlfriend’s coach would have picked me up yesterday but there wouldn’t be anyone there now.

Again Cyprus Airways dealt with the problem swiftly, they arranged for a Taxi to take me to where I was going some hour a way in Protaras.

All in all I was delayed for 13 hours but thanks to an airline that care about their passengers my holiday wasn’t ruined. I managed to arrive in Cyprus in one piece.
