I flew Czech Airlines from Manchester to Krakow via Prague. The ticket price was actually cheaper than any of the budget airlines and was the reason I flew with Czech Airlines. I woke up on the morning of travel looking forward to flying to hear the news on the radio about the terror alerts across all of the UK's airports. Oh!
The first problem I had was trying to contact Czech Airlines to see what the situation was regarding the afternoon flight. Understandably the lines were busy, I did eventually get through and the help desk were very helpful and I was informed that the flights to and from Manchester were still flyingJ
Giving myself more time than usual I arrived to Manchester Airport to more TV cameras than police officers. Having said this the security was high with dogs checking luggage. Surprising it did not take long to check-in, the confusion about what you are able to take through security didn't seem to effect our queue. Not surprisingly the guy in front was trying to take through a mobile phone through security, not a chance that day!
Boarding was easy and only a few minutes late. The aircraft was a Boeing 737-500 which was almost full. As soon as we had taken off (just 15 minutes late) and gained altitude we were quickly given drinks of the usual choice of hot or cold drinks. Then the food came which I was disappointed with. The tray contained two bread rolls, a small amount of salad (lettuce, rice and tiny slice of tomato) and either a slice of ham or cheese for vegetarians. We were given a tiny chocolate afterwards. I guess this is a similar situation for most airlines and to be honest the food is not important to me.
The cabin crew were friendly and helpful and the flight time of 1hour 45mins seem to go very quickly. The captain gave us the usual information about the flight and the current conditions in Prague. Leg room was fine for me but then I am not the tallest person in the world.
Landing was smooth and I didn't have to worry about any luggage as it was checked through to Krakow. I had a 3 hour wait at the airport for my connection. There isn't really too much to do at the airport, I found a bar and tasted the fine Czech beer.
The flight to Krakow left on time, the aircraft was an ATR72 which is a turboprop. These aircraft tend to be noisy especially at the back and there is often a vibration. However, the flight lasted on 50 minutes as we arrived at Balice airport. We were given drinks on board and a small snack. I read the in-flight magazine which was of interest.
The only reason I flew with Czech Airlines was for the price. Out of season the budget airlines are cheaper. For those you are about to book or about to travel with Czech Airlines, I believe that you will have a good journey and be well looked after. Just don't go on board with an empty stomach!!

I'd rather pay a few pounds more and fly direct into Balice - but then with Gatweick only 20 minutes away we're lucky there with Central Wings on that route. Richard.
