Visiting czech republic

Advantages: value for money, easy to get by in prague ,good for sightseeing
Disadvantages: pickpockets in underground stations, some taxi drivers will overprice you

I've been to a few places in czech republic namely prague, pardubice, Hradec kralove, Brno, Olomouc. Prague is like almost all major cities in europe with a blend of people of different religion and culture. Transport system is excellent surprisingly ive never encountered any delays within the country itself except during this one winter where they didnt expect the snow so early. All flights were cancelled and delays on train lines. I found prague ...
...in a country where there are no electronic shops!! If you are into drinkin beer then this is definetly the place to be!!Dont forget to have a shot of the famous absinthe!! Nightlife is quitevarried. Its useful to have a chat with people who have been there before. Radnost is decent for hip hop and RNB music, Duplex is quite impressive with a few floors playing different kinds of music ranging from techno to garage. Lolz and for those who are planning ...

An Impressive Town in South Bohemia

Advantages: Medieval town filled with coffee shops and culture - not forgetting brown bears
Disadvantages: Too many tour groups

It was one of those wet, dreary days in the Czech Republic when we hopped on to the packed bus heading for Cesky Krumlov. Hoping the weather would brighten up a little as we waved goodbye to the enormous bus station in Prague, I started to wonder what this town, often described as the second fairy tale town in Czech Republic, was actually like. Sometimes the countryside in between towns in this region of South Bohemia can be plain, flat and somewhat ...
...up for this. Once we had arrived in Cesky Krumlov the drizzle was still with us but we didn't let this dampen our spirits and decided to look for a room for the night straight away so we could then settle down to walking around this wonderful town. The bus station in Cesky Krumlow is on the outskirts of the town and from this position doesn't look much different than other Czech towns except that the top of the castle is very noticeable and I should ...

The Bone Church

Advantages: Nice town
Disadvantages: Not many shops or night life

...UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kutna Hora. We visited the Sedlec Ossuary or the Bone Church. It is really not the place for the faint-hearted as inside you can see the most usual way to arrange/decorate human bones!! Henry, the abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Sedlec, was sent to the Holy Land by King Otakar II of Bohemia in 1278. When he returned, he brought with him a small amount of earth from the Holy Land and sprinkled it over the abbey cemetery. ...
...a desirable burial site throughout Central Europe. So many people were buried there that the whole place needed to be extended and the bones had to be put in organized fashion. In 1870, a woodcraver was employed by the Schwarzenberg family to put the bone heaps into order-what a daunting job!!!! Four enormous bell-shaped mounds occupy the corners of the chapel. An enormous chandelier of bones, which contains at least one of every bone in the human ...

Brno:An alternative Czech city.

Advantages: Compact city with good shopping centre.Much less commercial than Prague,it has fewer cultural or historical sights of interest.Several hotels situated on Lake Brno offer good value for money and are only a short train journey into the city centre.
Disadvantages: Some distance from other Czech tourist areas.Brno doesnt have the cultural attraction of Prague.

We visited Brno during the sumer of 2003. We stayed in a hotel overloking Lake Brno during a period of glorious weather. For less that £100 per night we had a suite of 2 double rooms, living room two bathrooms and dressing area and two balconies. Brno lake is a short distance from the city centre and is linked by suburban trainline. The lakeside has several restaurants and bars, mini-golf boat-trips. Brno centre is mainly pedestrianised and is ...
...As Brno is very much less commercialised than Prague eating out is very much cheaper.Brno has a good range of eating places. We ate most nights at Brno Lake on a balcony overlooking the lake. Woth a visit to experience an ordinary as opposed to tourist, focused czech city. ...

Karlovy Vary:what to see.

Advantages: Attractive setting,spectacular hot springs.
Disadvantages: Expensive.

Karlovy vary is about an hour from Prague by bus. Bus transport is cheap in the Czech republic so a day trip is posssible if somewhat exhausting. The things you must see are the hot springs that spurt up to 100 feet in the air, the old hotel pup that serves a very civilised afternoon tea. and the communist era hotel in the newer part of the town centre. This builing is awfull in its appearance externally, but so amazingly retro internally that you ...
...Enterprise. Prices for accomodation in Karlovy Vary are comparable and can be higher than Prague. The hotels above the centre are set in attractive grounds but their customer service doesnt seem to be on a par.We were questioned rudely by a hotel manager after a jaccuzi bath overflowed. The expectation seeming to be that we would pay for the cost of cleaning up. ...
