Klatovy. If one of you ever visited the medieval town of Klatovy I don't think you'd ever forget it. It is easily accesible from Prague by trains or coaches (departing from Florenc coach station, via Plzen - the city of beer). The journey takes about 1,5 hours and u'll certainly enjoy the views of the czech countryside (summer or winter) during the way. It's possible to get off in Plzen/Pilsen and take a tour to the well-known breweries of Pilsner Urqull or Gambrinus (including tasting sessions, museums and memorabilia shopping). There is very many historical buildings to see too and the city is beautifully colorful now. The town of Klatovy is situated in the south-west from Pilsen and is only about 20km from the south borders with Germany. Once there it's very easy to get around. The main attraction is the Black Tower (next to the town hall and registry office) on top of the main square. It is 74m high and you need to climb 226 steps to get to the top to enjoy the most beautiful views of the town and the countyside and villages in the 360deg views. On the sunny day it is realy worthed! There are descriptions of the nearest hills and village names in your view.

Right next to this Black Tower there's a Christian church which is open to public (except the times when weddings are taking place) and underneath this church there are catacombs full of mummies! Yes mummies! They are in glass coffins and are open to public viewing during the main summer tourist season (May - October). So if you like a bit of a history and thrill, go and visit south-west of Czech.

Apart from historical sightseeing, there are some wonderful lakes and ponds to swim in! And they are clean and full of fish!! :))

Make sure you take a phrase book as not very many czechs in the countryside will speak any english. It is often easier to communicate with school kids or students who learn english at schools.

And don't forget to try some of czech dumplings - knedliky!!!! Yummy, my favourite ever meal!!!

Hope you enjoy as much as we did this year!!

Didn't get to this town when I was there a few years ago - I ended up real weird town about an hours drive from Prague with a large cathedral and a very eerie Ossuary with chadeliers and statues made from human skeletons. And Terry Gilliam knocked me over as he emerged from a hole in the ground unexpectantly.
