When we are talking on "Sigiriya", another name comes to our mind. That is "Dambulla. I am explaining my experience at Dambulla. Although the most people are going on one day trips to see "Sigiriya" and "Dambulla" I feel it is not enough a day to see the beauty of even one place out of them. It was not difficult to reach "Dambulla". There is a good intercitybus service from Colombo. Finding the Dambulla rock was easier than that. According to my knowledge it is 1118ft high from the see level. We had to climb up about 600ft to the famous rock temple "Dambulu Viharaya". (Dambulla Cave Temple). It is a series of caves turned into shrines. The view from the rock is magnificient. The first cave holds a recumbent image of the Lord Buddha. There were very beautyfil paintings and attractive statues of Lord Buddha in the "Rangiri Dambulu Viharaya". Ceiling has covered with frescos. Climbing on the rock is not a difficult task. We could crack jokes with the funny apes who were living at the rock permanently. We gave snacks for them. They were doing humorous things. So no one feel tired. There were lots of crypts on a long rocky plain. They denote the proud ness of Sri Lankan kings. Attempts of the old Sri Lankan artists are amazing. Dambulu Rock is a world heritage. We went to see another special place on our way to Colombo. There you can find a way to this "Ibbankatuwa Pre historical Cemetery". We had to go about 1/2km. The meadow was well maintained. We came to know that the human skeletons and some other things founded from this place are displayed at the "Sigiriya Museum". Do not forget to gain that experience at your next tour.
