Are Festivals For You? My Ultimate Survival Guide!

Advantages: Amazing music, amazing people and amazing atmosphere
Disadvantages: Not for hygiene fans!

roll with you. Not such a biggie for guys, but girls, I find this is a complete essential. Festival toilets ARE disgusting wherever you go, as they are simply portacabins/portaloos placed in the middle of a field. There are festival staff around who are meant to keep them clean, but in reality, the only times these toilets are clean are about 6 in the morning when they've JUST been cleaned thoroughly. Every other point in the day apart from that they ARE awful. Big festivals contain up to and over 100,000 people. With only about 50 toilets in a mile radius, that's 2,000 people to one toilet (if my maths are correct... :s ). Because, at festivals, people drink alcohol/other drinks a lot more than usual, I'd estimate they'd need to go to the toilet at least once every 2 hours. So... well, my maths isn't that great, but imagine how many times ...

Save the Whale.....!!!

Advantages: Great to read aloud
Disadvantages: Small writing, so for slightly older children

Having loved books when I was a child, I am determined to get my son into reading also. Okay, so he's only 4 months old, but I already have quite a collection of books for him to grow into. The Gruffalo was one of my first purchases, then on the back of this I bought 'The Snail and the Whale', which is also written by Julia Donaldson & illustrated by Axel Scheffler. I had heard good reviews about the book, but what really swayed me was finding the book in a half price closing down sale at my local bookstore. I bought the boardbook version (RRP £5.99, mine for £2.99). It's 32 'pages' long if you count both sides & include the covers (or 16 'boards' if you prefer). The illustrations grab your attention immediately. The detail & colours are wonderful. Perhaps not colourful enough for a young baby, but my son seems mesmerised ...

Whale Rider

Advantages: it is good entertaining enough educational way film
Disadvantages: it is not too commercial

the mainstream here while haunted the box office for 13 weeks. And yes, new Zealanders are really ready to see this film. How about the rest of the world than? Niki Caro, writer and director of "Whale Rider", has won a Humanities Award, an American-based prize for film and television makers whose work offers insight into contemporary society. Caro's screenplay has won the USA’s Sundance Feature Film Category, which carries a prize of US$10,000. Making the award, the judges coated Caro's "heartrending dramatization of the courage necessary to defy the unjust structures of a patriarchal society". Whale Rider has also won eight Audience Awards from festivals including Toronto, Sundance and Seattle. Other 2003 Humanities winners that include the feature film Antwone Fisher and the television series The Practice. It also won Best Feature Film Award ...
