St Marks’s Square is the focal point of Venice, at least for the tourist. It’s where you’ll find the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, the campanile and some of Venice’s smartest cafes, bars and shops. Hotel Campiello is just 3 or 4 minutes walk from the square, so the location could hardly be handier. It’s almost next door to one of the most famous hotels in Venice, the Danieli, a palatial 5 star establishment where a double room will set you back more than €400 per night, even in November. In Italian campiello means “little square” so you won’t be surprised to learn that the hotel entrance is in a little square. Right by the San Zaccaria water bus stop a narrow alley leads off Riva degli Schiavoni (the main walkway alongside the lagoon) to the little square. It’s only a few metres from the tourist bustle, yet it’s a quiet and peaceful...

Advantages: Great hotel, great location? Disadvantages: Perhaps too big!
...Last year in the Sunday supplements I read about the new Hilton Hotel that had just opened in Venice and they had comments on the wonderful views and the roof terrace.
As we had booked to visit Venice in March of this year, and had been several times before this was an opportunity to see another view of Venice from a different area.
I had read that it is a large hotel and thinking about Venice and the size it must be out of the main Venice tourist area, we had not seen any building work on that scale the year before.
The Hilton hotel is in the Giudecca area of Venice away from St. Mark's Square. We had to catch a water bus from San Zaccaria, over to Zitelle and then just wondered along until we arrived at the Hilton which is the other end of Giudecca Island.
They do say that Elton John has a house in this part of Venice...

Advantages: very cheap, free breakfast Disadvantages: bit shabby
...Well went to venice in december with ryanair (1p flights!!!) it was only after I had booked the flights that I relised how expensive the town really was... After hours of searching I found this hotel it worked out at £90 for 4 nights for a double room, now that is very good for venice, was also surprised to find out that breakfast was included.
I was a bit hesitant as the price was too good to be true and it was also situated on the lido and it would mean getting a water bus to and from venice, I do have to point out that this is not a problem- they run 24hrs/day 7days/week. so I went a haead and booked it.
As we arrived into venice I saw a number of 3 or 4star hotel all looking pretty old and shabby so I began to feel quite worried.
we arrived at the hotel at 2 am there was a night person there. He was very friendly and spoke...

Firstly the photos of the hotel and room are quite deceptive; the Carlton Grand Canal Hotel is a crummy looking hotel with tiny rooms but apparently this is to be expected in Venice- it is also useful to note that there are many dilapidated looking... more
