Lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Marrakech

Advantages: Service, location, service, location, and service
Disadvantages: Quite liked it the way it is

With so many riad hotels to choose from in Marrakech, it can be quite daunting to know which one to choose. Dar Les Cigognes ticks lots of boxes: great location next to important sites like Saadian Tombs and Badi Palace; lot's of fine eating places nearby--the terrace at Kosybar is a nice place to enjoy a drink or a meal--though the eating is pretty good at the hotel too. There is a spa, a nice big roof terrace to enjoy the sun on, the room was spacious and well-appointed. All of this is trivial in the end compared to what makes this hotel stand out. We experienced some of the best service we have had in any hotel anywhere. nothing was trouble, and they were just so naturally helpful, friendly, it really made Marrakech come to life in the most wonderful way. Thats Amara

Advantages: Brilliantly written
Disadvantages: Sadly Richard Laymon is dead, so new book releases will dry up if you become a fan

Some book reviews tend to spoil the ending or purpose of the book. She has been dead for 4000 years and she?s just an inanimate bundle of withered skin and desiccated bone. Or is she? Barney the night watchman is the first to discover that the mummy?s coffin has been broken open. Then it?s the turn of two security guards to find that the Egyptian remains have been disturbed. It seems grave-robbers are at work; out to steal valuable artefacts, just as their kind have done for centuries. It?s a pity Barney and the guards can ...

Review of Amara - Richard Laymon

Mesmering Marrakech

Advantages: Stunning scenery!
Disadvantages: food, a bit of a culture shock

Marrakech has always been high up on my list of places to visit, so earlier this year I packed my bags and set off with a friend to explore the city. We flew with easyjet from London Gatwick to Marrakech Menara airport, convinently located around 15 minutes taxi ride from central Marrakech. Morrocco has a closed currency system meaning that Morrocan Dirhams cannot be brought into the country or taken out. There are Bureau de Changes located throughout the city and they accept most major currencies including pounds and euros. The two main languages are French and Arabic, although English is widely spoken along with many other languages. A word of warning - Marrakech is a city where you have to haggle and haggle hard. Never accept the first price and be prepared to walk away! Prices quoted are usually 2-3 times as much as ...
