Advantages: Exotic, magical experience, cheap Disadvantages: More touristy than I expected
...Myself and my boyfriend went to Marrakesh in February for my 30th Birthday and Valentine's day. We stayed at dar Silsila after reading the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor.
I'd wanted to go to Marrakesh for ages as I thought it would be a totally different and more exotic experience than the usual weekends away in Barcelona, Prague, etc.
I wasn't disappointed....Marrakesh is a fantastic place. My boyfriend was concerned we would get a lot of hassle but there was hardly any at all. I have travelled in Thailand and Sri Lanka and there is a lot more hassle there. The people were really friendly and if you said "no thanks" (or "non merci"!) they accepted it and wouldn't insist on dragging you into their shop etc.
Oh actually the only time that did happen was when one of the ladies painting henna on people's hands in the Jemaa El Fna just...

Advantages: Such a variety of different cultures and scenary. Hot deserts to mountains, fertile plains to sandy beaches. Disadvantages: Snakes, cockroaches, beggars.
...I felt almost dizzy in the sunshine, disorientated, excited and a little scared. Everything was so different, my senses were almost over powered with new sounds, sights and smells. For this was Morocco a land of contradictions and I was quite alone.
I made my way slowly across the square to find a cafe so I could sit for a while and adjust to my surroundings. I ordered a juice and took it to an upsatirs balcony so I could overlook the Jemaa el Fna, which I read in my guide book was the liveliest square in Marrakesh. I now felt much more secure, part of it all and yet safe.
The square was a buzz of people and happenings. I could see dancers, jugglers and even a fire eater. There were stalls selling all sorts of foods, often heated or kept warm on charcoal stoves. I had said to myself before setting out from England that I wanted...

Advantages: friendly stafff and lovely towels Disadvantages: not enough rooms to invite my entire family
...which kept me from even needing my over sized towels to dry myself off.
yeah it sure was one great place to stay, infact to be honest, i didnt really see much of marrakesh because i was too busy enjoying the accomodation.
i thoroughly reccommend that you visit this fabulous esatblishment....
