Kilimanjaro Hotel
Advantages: Quality of service, Distance from city centre Disadvantages: Cost
The recently renovated hotel has been taken over by an international chain. A complete transformation from the 3* that it was to a 5* that it now is.
Very comforting atmosphere with a Casino and a number of restaurants. The Chinese restaurant serves the best made lobsters in town. Freshly picked in front of you and cooked to your taste. The staff is extremely polite and friendly.
The view from the rooms facing the Dar es Salaam port is beautiful.
... ...port which makes it convenient if you need to catch a boat to Zanzibar. The city centre is 10min walk away.
After a busy day in town the hotel is a haven to unwind. You almost feel like you are not in Tanzania anymore, the serenity and décor of the hotel is itself worth the stay. ...

Advantages: recommended by Tanzanians Disadvantages: a little pricey

This hotel can also be used for business meetings when in Dar es salaam. They usually ...

Home made food at Marangu Hotel
Advantages: Friendly staff, home made food, serious about their business as tour guides Disadvantages: A bit out of town
I stayed at the Marangu hotel for a few nights in connection with climbing Kilimanjaro in September/October 2003. When I arrived at Kilimanjaro International airport I had already been in touch with the hotel and arranged for a pick-up. The hotel is located about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from the airport. The hotel is a former farm and it was built in the early 1900s. The hotel consists of several cottages and buildings and they were not that impressive ... ...have no problem recommending the Marangu hotel as accommodation or as a tour guide when it comes to trekking on Kilimanjaro. The hotel may have a pretty basic standard compared to western standards but the staff makes you feel like you’re at home with their friendly attitude and their smiles. They seem to care for each and every guest and that makes the stay special. If you want more information about the hotel please check out the hotel homepage ...
