I went on a 2-night trip to this hotel in December 2006 for a Christmas shopping break in Dartmouth and was very impressed.
You can choose between contemporary and traditional rooms. I had a contemporary room which was beautifully decorated, nice and clean with a modern bathroom with all facilities. All rooms seem to overlook the river Dart with good views.
The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the centre of Dartmouth with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. It is a nice walk along the riverside. However, I was staying on a dinner bed and breakfast basis and was pleased that I had decided to eat at the hotel both nights.
The food was excellent with a separate menu for vegetarians. Everything was beautifully prepared and cooked. The breakfasts were good with a choice of full English, fish, continental, fruit, yogurts etc. The cooked breakfasts were well made and not covered in grease like at some places. Although there was a vegetarian breakfast on the menu, it was basically the full English without the bacon or sausages, there weren't veggie sausages or anything. I would have liked the menu to say whether the eggs were free range.
I was particularly impressed with the service. The staff were friendly and unusually well trained as every detail had been catered for. For example, when I went into the bar each evening before dinner, I just had to give my room number to the person behind the bar, who would pass my room number to the restaurant staff so I didn't have to tell it to anyone else all evening. Not a big deal, but little details like this make a big difference!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a special break.
