i read the review by one of the ciao members, who raved about this place and noted his claims of a well travelled person. unfortunately, either the guy is used to staying in 1 star or pensionnes or his idea of travel is different to most or has shares in the place.

the rooms at days hotel are old (i found out from one of the staff that the rooms have never been decorated and the hotel is 10 yrs old), carpet smelt in the room we were given, the aircond is noisy and the rooms are small. the bathroom fittings, such as the towel rail was loose. the interior is dark. think green, brown, with the scent of stale cigarettes.

on a positive side, the location is excellent (read on for more information), they have a small business center, a waiting lobby, and friendly staff. the latter helped to take the edge off some of the many negatives. the cost of the hotel is approx USD50 per night so it will not break the bank.

days hotel is dated. has no swimming pool and no internet in the rooms. if you want internet, you go to the business center! as with most hotels that don't renovate often, problems occur. my experience was a tap that continually dripped water and a (very) noisy aircond. complaining about the problems, simply ate up lots of time, with ultimately nothing that could be done. the servicemans comment about the aircond was "sorry sir, but this aircond is old". No kidding!

my beef here is simply, outdated rooms, appliances is a result of an owner not investing in his/ her business. the net result = problems.

having said all that, all i can say that i made a choice to stay there based on what i had read in the "glowing" review in ciao on the days. having stayed there, i can confidently state that this guy who wrote the review either: 1. didn't stay in the same hotel or... 2. has a vested interest.

unfortunately, the major positive the hotel has is the location - which is just a few minutes from the airport and marina mall. the latter is a small but efficient mall that has lots of good standard places to eat such as: cafe de france, le teggola, magellans (pub grub). in addition, they have korean, singaporean, japanese, chinese and some fast food outlets. we tried most and loved them all.

the days inn on the other hand has a very basic breakfast that was not that impressive. (maybe it was a case of having high expectations from the other review).

after a few days of staying in days in, i bumped into a fellow australian who was staying 1 minute down the road from days hotel in a place called SDR Apartments. I checked it out and quickly checked myself OUT of Days. SDR was not fancy on the outside (much like days), but was fabulous on the inside. Newly decorated large rooms, which were bright and fresh. No smelly carpets there. it was less money than days (USD40 per night) and they even have a swimming pool and provide free internet. i should point out that sdr is not a hotel but apartments that are run like a hotel so no breakfast.

for those that don't want to be surprised, do your homework; check out the website. www.sdrapartments.com and if you do stay at Days Hotel and are dissappointed SDR is only 1 minute away : )
