Welcome Brea Motorway Service Areas

Advantages: The best out of the lot
Disadvantages: expensive

As a lorry driver i use service areas quite a lot for breaks and overnight parking. Of all the brands i think Welcome Break is by far the best for cleanliness, choice and service. Now it costs anything from £15 to £25 to park a HGV on services over night (which i get back anyway)for this you get parking plus a voucher for use in the eateries for between £6-£10. Now after a 15 hour day driving on our lovely roads i look forward to parking up and getting away from the wagon for a while, Most welcome breaks have just been refurbished and most( i've not used them all yet) look very nice, you have a main seating area in the middle and then your eateries and shops around the outside, Now the reason i like Welcome Break the most is they have KFC ( i love KFC) so its a good start for me, then there's the other facilities Now as i have to ...

Gordano Services Days Inn- Excellent!

Advantages: inexpensive, easy to find, same standard everywhere, good standard of comfort
Disadvantages: no variety

I had to go to Bristol a few days ago and tried to get a hotel booking at short notice-hoping to go on the train. If I drive, it takes ma a good 4 hours on the motorway and you can't really relax like you can on the train. Anyway, there were no hotels available at a reasonable price so I decided that I had to drive. The next issue was where to stay if I did. The M5 has several service stations and I had stayed at Michaelwood services previously. I hadn't tried Gordano, so I logged onto the Laterooms website and looked at the rooms available- success! There was an executive room on the night I wanted so I rang laterooms and booked it. Review of Days Inn Bristol West, Bristol

Not The Most Welcome of Breaks

Advantages: The motorway services can be very handy in certain cases
Disadvantages: They are often hugely overpriced as far as goods and petrol is concerned and the cleanliness isn't always of the highest standard

for around two thirds of the price. I nicked a lift off of my sister and her boyfriend back to London a couple of weeks ago and I was feeling a bit peckish as I hadn't eaten any breakfast. I went into the petrol station shop and purchased a sandwich, a packet of crisps, a chocolate bar and a bottle of water. I was a little bored too so I bought a couple of tabloid newspapers. They came to a total of £6.77, which is an awful for lot compared to what you would pay in a 'normal' place. If I were to buy the same things from a branch of Tesco Express, I would estimate that they would come in at just under £5 which isn?t too bad. The petrol prices that you find at motorway service stations, including Welcome Break, are the one thing that bugs me most. The prices at the pump tend to be around 8p a litre higher than those in more accessible areas, if ...
