Also the stadium of the local football club, Feyenoord, is worth a visit. As city of the working class, with soccer as major sport, the stadium is impressive and has a great ambiance. No nonsense to the max. You'll love it, or you'll hate it, there is no in between.
There are a lot of interesting musea. The ones about sailing, shipping and constructing are infamous. But also for contemporary art, there is the Boymans van Boemingen.. and lots more in de Kunsthal. If you go there, enjoy, for nice bars, you got to go north from the center....

Advantages: Less crowded than the Eiffel Tower, Great Views Disadvantages: Thirsty Work, not
...or so we spent looking at the traffic we saw not one minor scrape or major prang. Scooters, cars and vans all got on with each other surprisingly well except for the odd (for odd read almost constant) hoot of the horn. It's just so much fun.
On a serious note I would take some water with you for the trek up the steps as it can be thirsty work and there were no water facilities when I went, disabled access is non existant, or was when we were there and you would need to be reasonably steady on your feet to manage it all the way up the steps. For this reason the Arc de Triomphe is not really suitable for very small children either.
All in all, for a great view of Paris I would rather go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe than get crammed in a lift to go up the Eiffel Tower, well worth a visit....

Advantages: A well-presented exhibition and superb collection of works Disadvantages: Can get very busy, especially at weekends
...With only two days in Amsterdam I was keen to cram in as much as possible. As it rained pretty much the whole time we were there, indoor activites were top of the list and as the Rijksmuseum was closed for essential works, next on my list was the Van Gogh Museum. This museum houses the biggest collection of the artist's work held in one place as well as displaying works by other artists of the period - this is interesting as it gives you an opportunity to put Van Gogh's work into context.
The Museum is located close to the Rijksmuseum and is easy to find. It is housed in a modern building which has wheelchair access. The building also has lifts to the upper floors. The admission prices are displayed clearly at the entrance and you can pay with Euros, although I think I saw a sign indicating that sterling is also accepted.
