the Lodge on Loch Lomond

Advantages: Possibly the best hotel you will ever stay in!
Disadvantages: None

This has to be one of the most beautiful and romantic places to stay in the World let alone Scotland. Set on the banks of Loch Lomond, this cabin style lodge hotel has everything you could wish for. I stayed here in February this year on the eve of my bithday. We stumbled across it while tring to find a place to stay on a tour round Scotland and boy am I glad we did. The prices were higher than we had been paying (£150) but thhis included a three course dinner and the best room I have ever stayed in. The room was all open plan with a low partition separating the bathroom from the bedroom/lounge. A fantastic large bed, leather chairs, tv and balcony looking out on the loch. The bath/shower was automatically set for a set time/temperatures all you had to do was press a button and the bath would fill to the right level! Brilliant ...

De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton

Advantages: Fantastic rooms, friendly staff, great location
Disadvantages: some of the other guests seem to think their a bit special!

be booked over the hotel groups website, by calling a central reservations number, by calling the hotel directly and most likely through your locale travel agents alothough i wouldn't recommend this as it will work out much more expensive that contacting the hotel directly. I would definatly recommend a visit to this hotel especially for a special occassion, the staff are always friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile, for example several times they've made food for me not on the menu just because i enquired as to whether they did do it or not. Also if you have an american express card you can often get deals on buy one get one night free in de vere hotels, and sometimes a free upgrade (the reason i got junior suites both time!) ...

Fathers Guest House, great place in the Cameron Highlands

Advantages: Location, views, surroundings
Disadvantages: Disappointing dorm room

Fathers Guest house has the perfect location on a small hill overlooking the tiny town of Tanah Rata in the Cameron highlands. Situated outside the town, but only a 3 minute walk into it, it has fantastic views and is tranquil but still has access to any activities the town has to offer. If you call the owners in advance letting them known when you will arrive then they will collect you from the town and save the walk up the hill with heavy bags. They also tend to be one of the touts who wander the bus drop off area and so if you arrive by bus then there is almost always someone there who you can ask to get a lift up the hill. Driving up towards the guesthouse the first thing that is obvious is that this is a beautiful area. The views from the top go right across the town and amongst the rolling hills of the area. The Cameron highlands ...
