SHOPPING
With no VAT Jersey is a shoppers' paradise. Even mundane goods (I always stock up on Woolies plimsols for example!) are cheaper than the UK mainland; while the well-off nature of many residents and visitors ensures shops are well stocked with exclusive designer goodies - albeit of the 'classic' variety. Jersey is not the place to buy your cutting edge Versace!
STAYING THERE
On one trip we 'treated' ourselves to a stay at the
DeVereGrand Hotel. Don't bother. It's overpriced and nothing special. And some of the food is quite, absolutely, atrocious! Other stays have seen us in mid-priced hotels none of which stand out for being especially good or bad. There's not much in the way of bargain...

Advantages: Fantastic scenery Disadvantages: A bit dull for families with young children
...We visited Jersey in early April and stayed at the Metropole Hotel in St. Helier. The hotel was centrally located and had excellent facilities including a swimming pool and gym. We stayed on Jersey for four days and saw most of the island by coach tours from St.Helier. I think this was the best way to see the island since the local buses are relatively infrequent at that time of year. It is possible to hire a car but the roads are often quite narrow and quite confusing.
St. Helier is a great shopping centre with everything VAT free although things aren't really any cheaper. The island has some great scenery, beautiful beaches and a number of other attractions. The island has quite a lot of WW2 history and many of the attractions are centred around this.
Although we really enjoyed our time there we felt that we'd 'done' the island...

...I have recently come back off my holiday to Jersey. I flew from Birmingham airport and within 40 minutes i arrived in Jersey! We stayed in StHelier at La Bonne Vie Guest House.
The whole of the island is breath takingly beautiful! One of the best ways to see it is by bike! Cycle routes are marked out and many of the roads are 15 mph so it is just perfect. Hiring a bike costs about £8 a day and is well worth it!
We visited Elizabeth castle and Gorey castle both of which are well worth a look.
StHelier is a brilliant place to shop. Many of the retail outlets offer VAT free prices so you can designer sunglasses, watches and pefume much cheaperb than at home.
Eating out is alos a pleasure is STHelier with a vast range of resturants. You can sample local culinary food, eat Italian,French,Chinese you name it they have got it...
