The De Verre HeronsReach is a hotel that stands situated opposite Stanley Parkin Blackpool. Part of the De Vere Group of hotels it is set in 236 acres of the Flyde coast countryside. The hotel is located very close to Blackpool Zoo and within a ten minute drive of Blackpool's south promenade and the Pleasure beach. Located 2 miles from Blackpool and 10 minutes from Blackpool Airport.
Looking at the hotel it is elegant and luxurious and for a 4 star premier hotel it should be. Each hotel provides something unique to guests and this hotel is not going to disappoint you. There are many facilities that the hotel offers and the beauty it is set in is awesome. One needs to remind themselves that they are actually in Blackpool. A town known for it's trashy appearance and night clubs. The De Verre is something different altogether. You can tell as you look around that the class of people are different too. A lot of the people who stay here won't spare you the time of day. They are business men or women. Then there are those who are set in their ways and a little snobbish as they look down their noses at you. However, there are a few who are genuinely nice people who have come for a holiday and want to meet others
whilst enjoying their stay. What you will enjoy whilst staying at this hotel is the peace and quiet of beautiful surroundings.
There is a 21 metre heated pool which is a lovely pool to swim in there are also other water facilities like a water shower that you stand under as the water splashes you. There are sauna's and steam rooms as well as a Jacuzzi. My mum used to be a member of the leisure club and although she enjoyed it there were a lot of business people who would use the pool and who all had great figures and would socialise with other business people and not spare the time of day to other members. If you don't mind this then you will enjoy the luxurious pool.
There are amazing golfing experiences and a wonderful golf course. Designed by some of the world's most acclaimed course designers such as Dave Thomas and Jack Nicklaus. There are courses to suit everyone from beginner to professional. The golf course has been well designed and it's quite a tricky course, but it could do with better maintenance. The grounds are not kept well maintained. The golf course offers a USGA specification course. At the moment it costs £35 a round which I think is extortionate and they are over priced because they know their guests will pay that price. There is also a golf course attached to Stanley Park which you may want to check out and the prices are a lot cheaper. The De Verre golf course is 9 hole or 18 hole. Set among 236 acres the course's 10 lakes provide a challenge to golfers of all levels. Par 72. 18 bay floodlit driving range, pitching green, putting green, shop and Spike Bar for drinks and meals. The course has been the stage for several finals of the De Vere PGA North Region Championships.
The leisure facilities are very good with a lovely heated indoor pool, sauna, beauty spa (prices are very high and you have to book they do most beauty treatments though and they are very good), squash courts and a golf course. You have to book the squash courts so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. Parking is onsite and free.
The 172 bedroom hotel rooms are clean and well maintained. The rooms vary in size and some of the bathrooms are a little on the cramped size. You can get rooms that offer amazing views over the golf course which is very pleasant and nice to watch others playing golf whilst you are in the luxury of your own room. There are a variety of rooms you can choose from including, standard room, a club room, a King Club Room, a Junior Suite and business class. Rooms do not have air conditioning apart from the Junior Suite and because the windows are on safety catches they only open slightly. Some of the rooms have little extras such as play stations in the rooms. There are direct dial telephones in rooms, hairdryers, tea/coffee making facilities, trouser press, colour TV, sky channels and pay-per view movies. It is a modern style hotel with a sweeping driveway that leads to the hotel. All rooms have internet access with WiFi in reception. Upgrade rooms available at an extra charge. It is wheelchair friendly and there are lifts to all floors, ramps and toilet facilities. One child sharing with parents can be accommodated at £10 for a cot and £20 for a rollaway bed. Prices from £107 and are based on per person per night.
The staff are very helpful and friendly. If you need anything or want to ask any questions they go out of their way to help. The receptionists pay attention to you all the time and use good conversational skills making sure you are happy with everything. Some of the staff are foreign and cannot speak very good English so you need to bear with them.
When you arrive at the hotel you will be met by the porter who brings a trolley to put your luggage on. This is a big relief and well needed when you are carrying lots of heavy luggage. The porter then helps whilst you book in which thankfully is not a very lengthy procedure. Once the booking in procedure is finished he will then escort you to the room where you can off load your luggage and relax for a while. You can leave any valuables at the reception as there is a safety deposit facility there.
Breakfast is served quickly and the staff interact with you and are friendly towards you. There is the choice of table allocation or self service. You can also pay £5 to eat in bar 19 which is a bar that is attached to the golf course and offers much cheaper meals. Dinner is very up market and there is a dress code which includes no jeans. The meals are very pricey and you don't have to eat at the hotel if you would rather eat in Town there are a lot of nice eating places including, Chinese, Indian and pizza places as well as lots of other places that are much cheaper.
The hotel is about 40 minutes walk from the Town Centre. It is in lovely surroundings and there are plenty of walks to go on around the hotel. The hotel is in quiet surroundings that are serene and tranquil quite the opposite of the hustle and bustle of town, but if you want to venture into Town you may be best either getting a bus which again includes a little walk or getting a taxi which will cost around £10 there and back. Parking in Town is quite difficult however there are metres now where you can buy tickets, but you can only park for so long. There are also car parks, but it may be to your convenience to get a taxi.
There are discounted tickets at the reception for some of the local attractions in Blackpool so if you have children with you it might be worth taking a look at these.
My overall opinion of the hotel is that it is alright for a short break, but I think you can find better and I also think it is wrong to charge for a cot when you have already paid a lot of money for the room. Personally I much prefer Travel Inn or Travel Lodge.
Would I recommend this hotel?
Yes maybe for business people as it has a lot of conference rooms and I suppose looking at the hotels in and around Blackpool it is one of the best. There are also the other facilities I love like the leisure facilities which you can only get if you stay overnight or if you join up for a membership which is a lot of money. It does make a change from the b&b's that are in Blackpool.

It's a 4 star hotel, but I only give it 3.
