Firstly i'll let you know that i never actually stayed in the room overnight in this hotel as i was transferred across the road to the Hilton because it was overbooked. However i did spend most of my stay in this hotel as it is where the company i work for was holding its function. I did see a number of the rooms and use many of the facilities.

So upon arriving at this hotel on a beautiful February day I initially thought what a splendid location - overlooking Bournemouths main beach on the seafront. It did look a grand hotel worthy of its £200+ a night price tag. On entry i was no less dissapointed everything was old and grand in style.

They were my first impressions of the hotel however i did encounter a number of problems on my short stay. I was transferred over to the Hilton which was only a minor inconvenience (can't complain as i wasn't paying) and was directly across the road. Yet when i arrived at the Hilton and explained they had no idea of me being transferred. Also in the space of time between me arriving at 10am in the morning and wanting to go to my room at 4pm in the afternoon they had lost my luggage. It took them around half an hour to find this and different people kept attending to me and then going away - they were not helpful to put it politely. Also not my personal experience but other people were also waiting an age to have their cars collected and staff would not even give peoples keys so that they could collect luggage from their boot. Everything seemed so disorganised for such a grand hotel.

The rooms where adequate - they were not as plush as i had expected but they were comfortable and spacious at least. All rooms had Sky TV, playstation and mini bar yet many things cost extra. Everything was spotlessly clean and the room was well presented.

The food at the hotel was very nice - fairly typical of expensive hotels yet there never seemed to be enough. Some of the courses in the meal i had were a little obscure and those picky with their food might not have liked it but i eat pretty much anything. Presumably if you are a regular guest in the hotel you may have more of a choice. Bar prices were typically expensive but not overboard and its way too easy to put drinks on your room bill!

The hotel also had a gym and a swimming pool, neither of which i used but they did look very nice. The gardens were beautiful also. The function rooms were what made it into the hotel it is - one of which was extremely large and fit 400 people in it quite comfortably. It also had a smaller seperate bar area.

Although i did enjoy my stay at the hotel - the fact that they lost my baggage did put a bit of a downer on it though and i do feel that in general the staff could have been more helpful. The rooms leaved a little to be desired but that is very much down to the individual taste. For the price of this hotel overall it is a little dissapointing and im sure there are better hotels. Personally i thought the Hilton across the road had nicer rooms and the staff seemed more helpful.

So would Royalty stay here!? Maybe once upon a time but perhaps not anymore - i think the Queen would demand better service!
