IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA

Advantages: Great cast, lots of action, very realistic (blood, sharks, death, etc)
Disadvantages: Weak story, not too many features

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water……. Deep Blue Sea comes back and hits you with another shark story. This time the sharks are getting smarter, and with no natural predators they are doing pretty well. In a search to cure the disease of Alzheimer’s scientist have discovered a way to alter sharks brains, so they produce a protein that encourages brain neurons in humans to being functioning again. Unfortunate to make enough protein for humans, the sharks have grown in size (up to 18 foot), and as another side effect the sharks are getting smarter. The whole experiment is set in an abandoned second world war submarine refueling depot in the Pacific Ocean. When a tropical storm, combined with an accident to one of the members of the crew, a disaster results in the three test sharks escaping ...

A Deep Blue Something

Advantages: Enjoyable nonsense, ably constructed and pretty effective at times
Disadvantages: Gaping plot holes, "only-in-the-movies" stupidity from the stereotypical characters, some poor continuity with the sharks' size, not exactly logical

Renny Harlin's first directorial outing for three years made a bigger splash (oops) than his previous two - the ill-starred though unfairly maligned Cutthroat Island, and slick actioner The Long Kiss Goodnight. Both starred then-wife Geena Davis, and soiled Harlin's reputation as one of the elite directors currently working in the Blockbuster genre. Whatever agenda many portions of the media had on their minds when brandishing these two movies abject failures, time will afford both projects a fairer assessment. Admittedly, Cutthroat sunk beyond reprieve upon its arrival in theatres, but the torrent of adverse pre-release attention was really the culprit. Long Kiss Goodnight fared slightly better, though still short of anything spectacular in box-office terms. So to Deep Blue Sea, another - altogether different - aquatic adventure ...

It's Just A Deep Blue Sea

Advantages: Good twists in the story, A few comedy moments
Disadvantages: Under Use of SLJ

I always seem to end up watching films when there on Sky that look a bit crap but more often and not they turn out to be a decent film. Well Deep Blue Sea is one of those films. Probably part of the reason I ended up watching it was the fact Samuel L Jackson takes a staring role, and being a fan of most of his films, cause he has done some that are awful, I sat down to watch this. So what’s it all about, well a team of scientists lead by Dr. Susan McCallister (Saffron Burrows) are conduction studies on Sharks on an observation platform in the middle of the Ocean. The aim of the research is to try and find a cure for Alzheimer’s and to do this they have enlarged the size of the Shark’s brain. Now Russell Franklin (Samuel L Jackson), a millionaire funding the project has decided to fly in for the weekend ...
