I have flown DELTA AIRLINES twice, (Once to Washington D.C. and Salt Lake City, Utah). I have never been seated in any class but Coach so that is the only class I can tell you about.

~. BOOKING .~

Since I retired as a Travel Agent I always a Travel Agent to do my bookings as they have the most up to date information on discount fares. If you prefer to book you reservations yourself they you can either phone them or book on line at:

http://www.delta.com/home/index.jsp

Thirty days before I am flying my Agent can select a seat for me, (she requests the seat I want when she books my reservations but the seat is only confirmed 30 days ahead). If you have a medical problem and have a letter from you Doctor you can select your seat when you book. People traveling with small babies can request a ’bulk head seat’ and a sky cot so that their baby will have a ’crib’ at the feet of one of the Parents.

If you are flying Delta from an International City they offer you a ’fly around the USA pass’ and if you have the time you are able to see many Cities in the United States for a very cheap price.

If you have special needs, (for example if you require help breathing), Delta will have extra air tanks ready by your seat.

~. CHECKING IN .~

You used to be able to check 2 bags per person, (aside from my personal information on my luggage tag I use a gold ribbon tied on each handle), and have one carry on bag, (22’’x14’’x9’’). I know you can still check in the 2 bags but I am not sure if you are allowed to have a carry on bag.

I have always found long lines when I arrive to check in. That is because I can only fly Delta trans-boarder, (to the United States), or Internationally. That means I use to have to arrive at the Airport at least 2 ½ hours before departure. Since September 11, 2001 I have to arrive at least 3 hours early.

Everyone will be asked for two pieces of picture ID. I always keep them with my tickets until I am on board. If you have them ready the lines will move faster. Know the airline code of your destination and when you receive a copy of your ticket stubs and boarding pass make sure that you see the code on it. Check the tickets you have back to make sure that they clerk has not pulled an extra ’leg’.

Delta always has a lot of Check-in Staff that are able to move the people waiting in line as quickly as possible. If you are traveling Business or First Class there is a special line for you to use.

Children traveling alone must be between the ages of 5 and 11 will be issued a badge to identify them and must have someone take them and pick them up from the Airports. Delta will need the names of people who will be doing this. They charge an extra fee for this and it depends on if the flight is domestic or international.

If you are traveling with pets check with Delta if you can take you pet on board or what you will need to do if they will be traveling in the ’hold’.

~. YOU WILL HAVE A RANDOM SECURITY CHECK .~

All Airlines are not only using a "profile" to pick out people for full security checks. They are now randomly picking out people for these checks. You can be elderly or a famous Star they will be checking an unknown number of people.

~. BOARDING .~

Delta allows First Class and Business Class Passengers to board the plane at any time. Families traveling with Children, the Elderly and people who are not well are boarded first so they can get settled into their seats before the rest of the passenger’s board.

The rest of the people are asked to board the Airplane from the back ten rows forward.

Once you are on board you will find a small cushion and a blanket on your seat.

A Steward or Stewardess will come through the plane and offer you a newspaper. Magazines can be found on a rack on the wall between sections.

In front of your seat you will find safety instructions, a ’barf bag’ and Delta’s in-house Magazine. On trans-boarder or International flights there will be a magazine offering you tax free items.

~. THE SEATS .~

The number of seats are different on each type of plane. I have been on a Delta plane with two seats on each side and five in the middle. On other flights there are only three seats on either side of the aisle.

I won’t lie and tell you the seats in Coach are large and comfortable. You won’t find that type of seat in this class on any plane.

~. THE FOOD .~

In Coach they charge for alcoholic drinks.

I hate all food served by Airlines that are Canadian or from the U.S.A. I always pre-order a vegetarian meal. If you want to order Kosher, Muslim, Indian, Salt-Free, Sugar-Free etc. meals you must do that in advance.

~. THE STAFF .~

From the moment I checked in until the time I picked up my bags I found the staff helpful and friendly.

ONCE YOU HAVE LANDED:

Try and be polite and let the people in the front leave the plane first. Even if you are the last person off the plane your bags will not be on the turnstile. Have your luggage tag receipts ready as you may be asked to show them before you leave the luggage area.

~. SOME THOUGHTS .~

DELTA FLIES 450 destinations in the World so I hope you will try them.

Do I enjoy flying Delta? Yes. Has the service been cut back? Yes. However the service has been cut back on every Airline in the World.

Advantages: Great frequent flier scheme, reliable airline that knows what it is doing
Disadvantages: Domestic flights rather basic and penny-pinching, no bimbo stewardesses (some might see that as an advantage!)
