impressed by the genuine warmth of the Quebecois in general (and my friends in particular). They're just such laid back, welcoming people.
GETTING AROUND
The centre of the city is easily navigated by foot, but you can also travel by car, taxi, bus or Metro (which is apparently quite unreliable, but I've used it in the past and it seemed OK). We were lucky as we had Monsieur Montreal, who kindly drove us around.
ARRIVAL
We stayed in the centrally placed Hyatt Regency hotel and arrived there late in the evening after our five hour flight from Vancouver, just in time to meet up with our host, Monsieur Montreal. We also had an unwelcome surprise in the hotel, which will be covered in the hotel review. Just east of the hotel is Montreal's Chinatown, where we had a late dinner.

INTRODUCTION
This review has been a long time coming. Montreal is one of my favourite North American cities, and on this, my fourth visit there, I finally have the pleasure of reviewing the legendary Schwartz's Deli. Lying to the east of the centre of the city, this place is something of a Montreal institution, and is mentioned in every guidebook I have ever read as THE place to go for smoked meat. I always make a point of going there when in Montreal.
The first time I ever went there, following my guidebook and entering on my own, I was a bit worried as to what the meat actually was, as I don't eat pork. I really should have taken note that this was a Hebrew deli, which would have allayed any fears. When I was meekly ordering a takeaway turkey sandwich, the old chap serving me clocked me as a British tourist and said "I bet ...
Advantages: Great location, good facilities Disadvantages: The lack of any kind of lift
claustrophobic in there, but really you're not going to spend your entire day in the bathroom (hopefully!) so it's not like it's a massive problem.
The facilities in the hostel were good. The kitchen was a good size for the amount of guests and there were plenty of items for you to use whilst there. If cooking yourself is not your thing then there are plenty of vending machines littered about, and the hotel even has it's own cafe which has a good variety of food. I personally didn't have any of the food there as I'm much too cheap, but the variety was good and friends that tried it enjoyed it. There isn't really a common room as such, there is instead a rather small TV lodged into the corner of the dining area which is a bit hard to watch when there are lots of people in there.
The laundry facilities were quite expensive for a hostel, but ...
