Standard

Advantages: Central location, free wireless access, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Showing its age a bit!

...the price required was the Best Western Ritz - the name sounds great but a colleague of mine had stayed here a couple of years ago and didn't give it a glowing recommendation. The name suggests a mix of old glamour and modern chain marketing, and indeed that seems to be the case. The Ritz is located very centrally, housed in an imposing four-storey building on Banegaardspladsen, just a minute's walk away from the central train station in Aarhus. ...
...Best Western group, the facade and main entrance still hark back to better days and you might half-expect a concierge to be waiting to take your bags as you step out of the taxi and approach the building. The reception area is well-appointed with marble floors and leather sofas, and you are welcomed by friendly English-speaking staff who are happy to provide you access details for the new, free wireless internet service that the hotel provides. Directly ...

Grim

Advantages: Location - easily reached by car and public transport
Disadvantages: Cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, expensive rooms and substandard service

...to my stay at the Hotel Mercur in Arhus, it's difficult to find many positive things to say about it. It wasn't my first choice of hotel in the city, but as I had to book at fairly short notice, that didn't bother me unduly. Only when I arrived and told colleagues where I would be staying did their reaction trigger a faintly uneasy feeling: "You're at the Mercur? Oh. Hmm. Well, I suppose you can't change it now". That much was correct - it appears ...
...is going to shut their hotel for potentially expensive renovations when that would mean missing out on weeks of lucrative business and leisure travellers? Unfortunately, the Hotel Mercur clearly exemplifies this line of thinking - it's badly in need of a makeover in all departments, but instead is open for business and charging not insubstantial sums for the privilege of staying in dirty rooms in an outdated tower block. I'll get the positive points ...

Fabulous Stay - Go for the weekend

Advantages: City centre location, great buffet breakfast, peaceful rooms
Disadvantages: No spa on site

We stayed at the Radisson for 3 nights in June and it was great. Arhus had so much to see and the hotel was perfectly suited to walk to most of the attractions. We had a standard double room and the bed was large and the room very quiet. We booked the day we arrived in Denmark and the price was very reasonable. You know you are going to get a certain standard with the Radisson chain. The breakfast had a very large selection including the cooked ...

Review of Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel, Arhus

3 star hotel in the centre of Esbjerg, Denmark.

Advantages: Slap bang in the centre of Esbjerg, not made of Lego or bacon.
Disadvantages: Old and it shows.

...it will be, and the Hotel Ansgar is just round the corner. Some distances: About a ten-minute walk to the ferry terminals for the UK and for Fano, a small island just off the coast which is well worth a visit. 5 minutes the other way takes you to the train and bus station. Esbjerg airport is out of town, 10-15mins by taxi. The tourist information office is located on the main square, under a minute away if you run. There are bars annd restaurants ...
...a big jump from the hotel steps. Hotel description: The hotel is an old building which has been carefully renovated "to preserve it's character" It is situated on the street "skolegade," and there is car parking round the back, accessed via a narrow archway between the hotel and "paddys" pub. The Hotel car park itself is small, but if your car is only left overnight there are other spaces here which can be used - check with reception. There is no ...

Budget accommodation in Esbjerg, Denmark.

Advantages: Cheapest in town, clean, nice building.
Disadvantages: Only just in town, bit like going to a boarding school.

If the Encyclopædia Britannica ever decides to create a virtual hostel to communicate exactly what a hostel looks like, they probably ought to model it on this one. It does everything that a hostel should do, and not a single late-night-beer more. As with any hostel, there are a number of positives and negatives compared to a hotel - in case you have forgotten here is a reminder of some of them. Positives. * Cheapest prices in town - 120kr (10GBP) ...
...room from 310kr (30GBP), although you need another 35kr(3GBP) to join the hostelling organisation if you aren't already a member. * Clean rooms, clean sheets. * A good communal area with a nice big, clean kitchen, internet Access, and a TV lounge. * In a quiet area, and with the curfew you can be assured a good night's sleep. * Friendly guests and helpful staff. * You can book online, in advance Negatives. * As noted above, you have to be ...
